When John Lennon and JFK died, there were crowds of weeping people mourning their deaths in public. Not on the scale of Kim Jong Il, but still, it's not an isolated or unique phenomenon for crowds to mourn the death of a public figure. That was what I was trying to get at. Had nothing to do with suicide.

Maybe the statistics I heard about were bullshit then, I should try and find a reference. The traffic thing was not measured just for young people, though.

It's called the "Werther Effect" and at least two studies indicate that there is a significant statistical increase in suicides and suicide attempt in the month following a celebrity suicide.
