I'd ask them to just browse over, read only the Intermittens threads... and then ask themselves wtf they're scared of.

I can understand our egregore comes off as slightly intimidating, what with all the shrapnel jutting out of it's shoggoth-like corpus. The strange pipping and gibbering laughter doesn't have to be the PD.com that they approach, tho.

Have them read Verrwirrrung for a while.. Sign up and LURK for a while. Get to know the rhythm and tempo of the jokes and memebombs. [This gives me an idea, we should have a Current Events type thread stickied for lurkers to follow.]

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding this--I"m just a Noob, after all.  But are you essentially saying that you think before people submit to Intermittens, they need to read the PD.com Manual first?

WTF?  What do you care who reads it?  I sent the link to the last to probably 100 different people.  Was I supposed to ask permission first?  Are you really going to go this route?  Let's hold people hands and make them all comfy so everything is picture perfect and we all shit rainbows?

Good, keep on sending it to them, we WANT to encourage extra-PD activity and circulation. That's the point we are trying to make. So much so that we want to encourage people to NOT view this as a PD project at all.

If you want a say so in who reads intermittens then you need to speak up fast.  I'm sure I am not the only one who sent it around.

Still missing the point. By a mile.

Also, if my opinion is so distasteful and this is gonna be the new discordian "people" let me know as well, because I seriously misunderstood the point.

Who said ANYTHING about anything being the "new discordian people"? This is just a little project to get our ideas out there.

OUT THERE.

Like, OUTSIDE OF PD.

Am I getting through at all?

I have no problem removing my involvement completely!  I understand you started this idea Cram, but I thought it had become a group effort.  The group being members of PD.  When did that change?

You're just starting to sound bitchy, and appear to be attacking completely imaginary arguments ideas and insecurities. I'd stop before you make yourself look like a bigger idiot than you already do.

I don't care who reads it either. Just as long as it isn't ONLY PD'ers.

We already have the board for in-house circle jerks. (Partial Quote)
Agreed.

Although I do care who reads it.  I know some people I really want to see it.  Some because they'd love it, and others because they'd hate it.

The bigger the readership, the better.

Just like the bigger the contributions base, the better.

Iason Ouabache

So technically you don't care about who reads it, you care about who doesn't read it.
You cannot fathom the immensity of the fuck i do not give.

I guess so.

I want to say that I also want to have regular readers if possible. I just don't care who they are. (as long as they aren't all just us)

are you actually responding to my post? Or are you just getting yourself all worked up for the fuck of it?
Did I ever say "This is a PD only project?" No, in fact I've spent my last few posts saying exactly the opposite.

I'm not going to re-explain myself

everyone else seems to get the point

Ummmmm

If a project starts getting discussed on a board, and you hear about it and want to participate, how would YOU go about it?

I mean, honestly. It's not that hard. If people are aware enough of the Discordian community, they can either sign up here to submit directly, or approach someone they know through another venue and submit indirectly, or they can make their own whole issue.

Saying that people have to sign up here to talk to us here ISN'T SOME KIND OF ELITISM. It's just a fucking law of goddamn physics.

If someone wants to have a beer at my corner pub, they HAVE TO COME TO PORTLAND and my corner pub is not some kind of Portlandian elitist, exclusionary joint for physically existing in Portland.

It would be nice to have a whole website for Intermittens, and it would be nice to have a mailbox for submissions, so if you want that to happen, DO IT. Make it, check it, and maintain it. Don't expect everyone else to jump on board, this is a volunteer project and not everyone wants to do what you want to do.
"I'm guessing it was January 2007, a meeting in Bethesda, we got a bag of bees and just started smashing them on the desk," Charles Wick said. "It was very complicated."

like I said - I don't blame discordians for not wanting to get the stink of PD on them. I know several discordians who are really cool IRL but have been flamed off this board. This is a good community for people with thick skin, but fitting in here shouldn't be a requirement to work on Intermittens.

I think all of this is a decent argument for hosting the Intermittens discussion at p3nt's place, or at intermittens.org.

Jenne

I'm no help--I can see both sides.  But I'd like to see the erring on the side of inclusiveness, rather than exclusivity, if at all possible.

Cain

I see the use of multiple streams of submission for getting as much material as possible.  Perhaps this should actually be mentioned in an issue?

Rococo Modem Basilisk

I take it people can't post here without registering? I know some fora allow guest posters.

Agreed. PD.com has some great stuff going on, but it seems representative of a niche of Discordian activity which appeals to some, but not all Discordians. I don't care if Intermittens stays here or not, but expecting any given Discordian (even ones not given to Pinealism etc)  to survive this place is probably not realistic.
