That One Guy

I don't understand these threads. Is it some way of saying "you're doing it wrong"? Because that's sure as hell what it feels like to me, and I've spent too much time fending off other people that told me I was "doing it wrong" on this board.

If I see a thread that doesn't interest me, or I'm not feeling a specific forum I just ignore it. Sometimes I feel like wallowing in fluff so I stay in Apple Talk. Other times I like getting heavy into something and I'll stick to OKM or TFY,S. If people want to talk about the weather, so what? Especially if they follow the "rules" and keep it in Apple Talk.

Not every single topic has to be what interests a small handful of posters. I come to this forum for the specific people that post here. When those people act like, well, people, I don't see anything wrong with it. If I'm interested in what's being said I stick around. Otherwise I move to the next thread, or forum, or just wander off to other websites.

Don't like what other people are posting? Don't read it. If that means you have to wander off from the board (and thus give YOUR opinion less voice in the overall noise), then wander. Don't post about it - if you're a mod, PM one of the other mods to let them know, then take some time off. Everyone needs a break once in a while, and that's fine.

Trying to lay a guilt trip by "flouncing" because people aren't posting what YOU want them to post? Fuck off.
People of the United States! We are Unitarian Jihad! We can strike without warning. Pockets of reasonableness and harmony will appear as if from nowhere! Nice people will run the government again! There will be coffee and cookies in the Gandhi Room after the revolution.

Arguing with a Unitarian Universalist is like mud wrestling a pig. Pretty soon you realize the pig likes it.

No, her mouth is insufficiently distended for that.

I'd like to point out that nowhere in the OP did I mention Apple Talk. I was talking about a problem I felt was endemic to the entire board. A problem which I would NOT have mentioned had it been confined to Apple Talk. I forgot that I'm not allowed to have an opinion about my own fucking website.

I'd also like to point out that Rat and Nigel should go get a blistering case of face herpes, the sores of which will hopefully swell up enough to prevent them from using their mouths. Seriously, fuck you both, you smug self-righteous twatwaffles. Your comments wouldn't piss me off except that, well, you are the two biggest examples of what I was complaining about.

Just so everyone understands, I'm not going to throw a tantrum and start modding/banning/whatever people. I'm not in a funk, I'm not allowing IRL stresses to carry over to PD, and I'm not having one of those occasional moments of mental/emotional instability that everyone has. I'm just not impressed with what this place is turning into. I'm sick of feeling as though I have to be nice and fair and consider everybody else's stupid opinions and keep my mouth shut when shit is fucked up here. There is no "Internet Bill of Rights", but if there were, it would NOT be written that site owners and admins have to be nonconfrontational and consider all posters equal. I won't use my "admin powers" to advance a personal agenda, but I will NOT sit quietly by while a handful of jackasses try to turn this place into a bully pulpit for their own twisted and dangerous views. You can expect to not be banned or modded, but you sure as hell CAN expect to be mercilessly harassed, harangued, and verbally castigated. And I won't speak for anyone else, but I'd bet every penny I have that I'm not the only admin who feels this way. In fact, I intend to have a conversation with the other admins as soon as I can about how the growing userbase and increased activity here may require us to re-think how this place is run and what the rules are. I have no way of knowing whether or not we'll come to any consensus, or what if any changes there will be to the rules and structure of the forum. If there are any changes, some of you will undoubtedly disagree with them and leave in a huff. I'm OK with that, so while I welcome any constructive input any of you may have, whining and bitching will get you ignored like you were Sara Palin after the election.

You know... I have no fucking clue why you think I am one of the "biggest examples of what I was complaining about"... moral relativism? circle-jerk of self-justification and rampant apologia for some of humanity's most reprehensible behavior?

I am at a loss to figure out what the fuck you're referencing.

Ditto. PD.com seems to have become a lot more tolerant of vacuous bullshit as of late.

I've noticed a huge change in the atmosphere of this place over the past few months.

I'm honestly not so sure that a change of rules is needed though.

I'd rather certain people would just speak up a bit more when they see shit that bothers them.

I'm not sure I'm looking at the same forum.  Sure, I see posts that set off my WTF alarm, but I don't see them being generally accepted, either; as far as I can tell, they've been consistently addressed and challenged.

Then again, I may be responsible for some of the stuff you're talking about - My cooking thread, for example.  If people have a problem with it, I'll just post a link to my blog and continute from there.

I wish you'd be a bit more specific, though.

I'm also a little curious as to what specific threads are contributing to this.  I would like to think my discussions about drugs are not considered to be a part of this.  I know my views are quite different from the majority here, but I in no way have the intent of trying to convince people to agree with me, or to use this place as a bully pulpit to spread those views.

Now, I have used this place as a means to spread the joys of punnery, and for that I offer no apologies.   :D

I don't get it, I think mainly  because I have no idea what the hell "moral relativity" is and can't really be arsed finding out. Suffice to say - if I'm part of this problem - I apologise but hey, I gotta be me.

I've never considered your stuff as anything more than your point of view, justified by your personal experiences. Hell, you even admit when you misstate something, like a few weeks ago. Seems reasonable to me.

But if I am endorsing dangerous views of reprehensible behavior... I'd like to know about it so I can correct it.

its a philosophical idea that there is no moral absolutism... ie that right and wrong is all relative - usually due to cultural or social conditioning
