Sir Squid Diddimus

I'm staying out of it other than to ask:
Did Broken AI fuck off?
His avatar, name and all his stuff in his sig are gone.
Frankly I think he was a pretty nifty guy with some neat ideas.
It wouldn't be cool if he left.

just my opinion

This again?

Really?

Of course the cycle repeats. It started off with that BIP-esque "Hey LMNO" thread, triggering old chrono-memes, creating a sort of timeloop. I expect AKK and Lamanite to pop up any minute now. Having learned from Groundhog Day, the only way to break this cycle is if TGRR starts hitting on Andie MacDowell and learns to play piano and ice-sculpt.

However, I would love to see TGRR hit on Andie MacDowell.

hey we all know that bai has a tendency to try new things when he feels his old persona is a little old.
Through me the way to the city of woe, Through me the way to everlasting pain, Through me the way among the lost.
Justice moved my maker on high.
Divine power made me, Wisdom supreme, and Primal love.
Before me nothing was but things eternal, and eternal I endure.
Abandon all hope, you who enter here.

Its pretty simple really.

QuoteTrolls must actively attempt to split discussion across as many pages as possible, thereby weakening posters by dividing them both in argument and posting. .... Take quotes said in anger out of context and use them to either start new threads, or continue fights in old ones. In short, they anything to muddle the coherence and consistency of the discussion.

Why is BAI doing this?

Probably because no-one is posting at EB&G anymore.

For anyone just tuning in now and doesn't want to read the last eight pages here are some highlights

  • JohNyx wasn't all that interesting or annoying before this thread
  • Every response he made in this thread had a jab after it, some justified, most not.
  • JohNyx WAS becoming annoying by responding to this thread but he bowed out quite a number of pages ago.
  • The jibes continued
  • ECH and Roger started arguing about how best to handle these situations but the same issue remains, when someone presents something annoying how much do they need to be pulled up on it? JohNyx posted about five times in this thread, but there are around seven pages solid of attacks on him, is this excessive? When does it become too much.
I've been in ECH place several times over the last year or so in this exact argument and I am rather tired of it so I am not going to enter the fray this time.
But commenting on the bit ECH posted about dressing down the community I think is exactly what we need. No one is perfect and we need to be called on our mistakes no matter what, even if we are an established member of the community or whatever.

Yes, and it should be done publicly, of course, because that won't put hackles up and cause all kinds of other problems.

Also, we should do like the American Army did in the 90s, and issue "stress cards", and when a noob feels he is being stressed out too hard, he can hold up the card and everyone should stop.

Sarcasm aside, I - for one - will not be leaning on any other new people, for any reason.  I'm gonna write and perform admin functions, and that's it.

No, there's another way.  See above.

Stress cards?

In the Army?

Seriously?

And I think that thread that TGRR started a week or so ago, Hey LMNO, is testament to the fact that, yeah, we might have a fair amount of LiveJournal fluff on the boards (isn't that what Apple Talk is for?), but we can also roll out (fairly quickly I might add) some very impressive shit.

It's Ken DeVries' 1000 lobster theory in action...for every lobster that grows to be 60 feet long and starts devouring ships, 999 go in the cooking pot.

In short, you're going to get 999 crap threads for every thread that takes off and goes somewhere.

Yeah, that shit started in 96 (IIRC), and ended about 30 seconds after the Iraq war started.

In any case, I am not bothering the noobs anymore.  Let 'em run wild and fill the joint up with word salad, pineal nonsense, and great ideas like desecrating bibles...why the hell not?  I'm certainly not getting in a fight with the other admins over it, I don't have the energy.  I'm just gonna do my thing and ignore them.

I mean, just because the system we have now works and has worked for years, is no reason to continue it.  It fills peoples' mail boxes up with secret complaints.

My personal opinion is that I'll deal with ignoring most of the 999 if we can still get the Monstrous Crustacean.

Incidentally, I've started writing a song that uses The Spiders as lyrical inspiration.  The gift keeps giving, once offered...

Yeah, my daughter is well into illustrating the thread.  It's pretty creepy stuff.

Only problem with the lobster theory is that 999 lobsters will turn into about 9,999, if the pressure is taken off.

If there's a way we can scan her illustrations and do a proper layout, that would be really great.

First ones ought to be done by this weekend, and I'll post.  Someone can PDF it?
