yes but the circular black thing looks more like something blocked out, or some area just not covered by the satellite imaging, rather than a "natural" phenomenon?

Basically, the ozone hole closed up for a couple years, Antarctica got real warm and a bunch of ice melted really fast. Then the hole opened again and ice built up really fast. Scientists are predicting that if it closes again a bunch of ice will melt.

It took a while for them to make the connection, is all. Meanwhile Arctic ice is at an all-time low.
