I didn't pay attention to the standings at all. I just picked them at random to see what would happen.

"bracket" is short for "I filled out the NCAA men's basketball tournament bracket before it started with the teams I thought would win". TBH, I'm surprised at having to explain this to any americans, as March Madness bracket pools are pretty ubiquitous. Anyway, if you have the most accurate bracket at the end of the tournament out of all the brackets filled out by all the people on facebook who used the CBS Sports app to fill out brackets, you win $10,000.

WTF is a bracket pool

"March  madness"?  :?

are you even speaking English?

Almost 40 years old and I can't figure out what the hell you're saying.

Is this some kind of East Coast thing?

What the hell is this 'basketball' you guys keep referring to?

The tournament bracket for the Men's NCAA Basketball Championships. We pay money, we pick a bracket, and whoever has the most correct picks at the end of the month wins the bracket.

Hmmm, OK, thanks. I am still not sure what a bracket is, but this is clearly some type of betting pool, amirite?

I don't really get it, but I hope one of you guys wins something.

Rumckle

Huh, I didn't realise "bracket" referred specifically to basketball.

Anyway, sweet news ECH!
It's not trolling, it's just satire.

Suu

It doesn't. It can be any single elimination tournament.

That's what it looks like.

Triple Zero

yeah basically you got this tournament schedule, as in the pic Suu posted, and then you try to predict the way it goes.

still not entirely sure which part of it is the "bracket", in Dutch we call this betting game a "pool". come to think of it, bracket and pool might refer to the same thing. which is, the group of teams that a particular team is going to play against in the tournament, depending on how the schedule goes.

In the States a Pool refers to any bet taken amongst a large group of people, as in "everybody pools their money".

Triple Zero

Hmmmm you're probably right, it might refer to that here as well. I don't usually participate in those betting games because I don't follow sports.

The bracket is actually filling out a bracket and participating. A pool can be any betting system or the amount of money to be won. For example our current pool for 1st place is $430.

Its not always sports related, for example at my job, the kitchen guys usually take bets on how many covers we're going to do on a given night.
