Picking caddisflies from the pan,
only 1,000 more to go,
oh yeah, pickin caddisflies from the pan,
Lord, I hope theres less than 1000 to go.
The pan sure ain't getting any emptier,
so I guess I don't really know.

Theres another Cheumatopsyche,
stuff in that vial.
Oh, theres yet ANOTHAR Cheumatopsyche,
gonna stuff it deep in that vial.
Later I'll identify it,
but right now its just another file.

Well, now my eyes are getting blurry,
all the fumes are comin in.
Yeah, my nose is dry and stuffy,
all those fumes just keep on comin in.
Gonna get me a fume mask,
or this EtOH will be my end.

(guitar riff)

Another day has passed by,
and I'm still on sample one.
Yeah, another day has just gone and passed by,
and I'm still on this goddamn sample, number one.
I think I'll be workin on this sample,
till my sortin days are done.

I would love to hear this set to music.

Somebody send me a guitar recording, a slow and steady twelve bar with a solo inbetween the third and fourth verses, and I'll record the vocals for it. Something like this recording of Steamroller Blues: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQYdCQSGl5A or something by Leadbelly.

Edit: That was a really asshole thing to ask. If anyone would like to collaborate something, I'd love to.

I recorded it and set the gain right, but I can't seem to get the lame MP3 encoder to work. Also, I wanted you to check it out before I call it finished.

Ah.  I'm sorry I didn't see this earlier.

As it turns out, the Audacity .aup files aren't really music files.  To stretch a metaphor past its breaking point, if music files are notes on a page of sheet music, the .aup files are the staves: They tell the notes where to go, but they don't contain any actual music.

You still need to "Export" the thing into WAV, AIFF, or MP3 format (or ACC, or FLAC, or OGG, etc).  If the MP3 encoder is giving you grief, try WAV or AIFF.  The files will be bigger, but it should work, and you can always convert using iTunes or WinZip, or whatever you're using.

Because I tend to procrastinate by creating other stuff, I'm willing to add a drum track to this, if you want to really go for it.  Let me know, and PM if you need better details on how to bounce tracks down from Audacity.

Triple Zero

hey, for anyone who has trouble making MP3s, do this:

1) Get RazorLame, this is a nice GUI tool that allows you to put WAV files in, press the Encode button, and out comes the MP3 file. You can also adjust the MP3 encoding settings (quality etc), but the default settings are probably fine.

1b) Just unzip the razorlame.zip file into a directory such as C:\Program Files\RazorLame

2) Because of some unholy patent reasons or other, they aren't allowed to package the LAME libraries with anything or even offer it for download, so you have to get those separately from Rarewares.org.

2b) You unzip this lame3.99.a7.zip file (currently the latest version) and place it in the same directory as you put RazorLame.

3) It's probably convenient to create a shortcut in your Start Menu or Desktop to C:\Program Files\RazorLame\RazorLame.exe

So, if you made something in Audacity, you export the thing to WAV. This creates a huge-ass file, but if you have the diskspace you might want to hang on to it, because it's the lossless recording of the thing you just made. Then you drag this WAV file into RazorLame and press the Encode button, and it starts encoding. The resulting MP3 file is probably in the same directory, and if not, check the My Documents folder, and if not open the RazorLame preferences menu to check what it has set as default directory to put MP3 output files (or you do that first, before you look all over the place to see where the damn thing went).

wav, export it into wav.

MP3's are for finished products and really big files.
You're a special case, Babylon.  You are offensive even when you don't post.
