Is this a real symbol?

Is this a real-world symbol? I saw it in my dream a couple times last night, and it's been bothering me because it looks sorta familiar.

Fuck. That was a weird dream. At one point, I overheard someone threaten someone else by invoking the name "Mary Keller"- then the dream turned into a grindhouse movie trailer about her. Apparently she was a deaf/blind descendant of Hellen Keller, and a natural born killer because she was (according to the voice over) "born into a world darker than a sinner's heart".

Fuck. No more melatonin.

EDIT: Re-uploaded image to a better site.

Looks familiar to me too.
It's reminiscent of Theban Script, but that variation is not found in that cypher.

I know I've seen that before too.

I'm thinking it was one of the older symbols used by the Marianists - a cross above the letter "M."  Or one of the astrological symbols for an asteroid (but I'm probably getting mixed up with Scorpio.)

The US Marianists use this symbol, which has the same general idea behind it.

A: We have hired a number of FORMER 8th graders.

Looks like one of the symbols on the supposed "evidence" produced against the Knights Templar during their trial, though as I recall that was just a highly stylized version of the astrological symbol of Virgo.

Sir Squid Diddimus

It looks like a cross between a theban letter D, O, P, or R and the scorpio symbol, sorta

Pope Pixie Pickle

looks like a mash up of the astrological sign for saturn

and either virgo

or scorpio

or an obscure rendering of Virgo, as previously mentioned

it looks a lot like the alchemical symbol for separation, which I can't find right now

QuoteThe third operation in the alchemy of transformation. Symbols of Separation include swords, scythes, arrows, knives, and hatchets. The operation is symbolized by the sign for the constellation of Scorpio.

kind of close to the symbol for Virgo, too

Jasper

yeah I was going to say it looks like an inverted scorpio symbol- upside down and backwards.

The symbol (and the accompanying dream) means that you wish to have sex with your mother.

Of course, there are databases for looking up symbols online :) Don't tell me you doubted that for a moment hehehee

http://www.symbols.com/graphic-index/

looking for your symbol leads me to Group 17 (asymmetric, open, curved+noncurved, crossing):

http://www.symbols.com/encyclopedia/17/index.html

it's not there, you might also want to check out Group 18 which contains the Scorpio and similar signs:

http://www.symbols.com/encyclopedia/18/index.html

But your symbol isn't there either.

To me it seems like the symbol you posted is an amalgamation of a few well-known symbols, as others ITT have already pointed out. Saturn+Virgo/Scorpio would be my first hunch as well. Seems like a reasonable explanation IMO, since nonsensical mashups of existing stuff are a common element in dreams (at least, they are in mine).

A crazy suggestion: you might actually consider dropping this question with our buddies over at the pagan/mystic boards. There are always a couple of smart ones, they might be able to shed some light on the interpretation of this glyph.

Regardless, we could also Law-of-Five the crap out of this one ourselves, courtesy of SSOOKN head of Aquatic R&D (that would be me):

It is the symbol for Saturn, except the curved crescent part is doubled. This probably refers to the recent discovery of an enormous new ring around this planet, making this the new symbol for Saturn, including the newfound ring (named the Phoebe Ring).
"[Saturn is] portrayed as an old man with a sickle and a pruning knife in his hands. It is probably from that way to portray Saturn we have our image of personified Death, the old man with a sickle." The sickle corresponds with Saturn's ring, and as the extra curve in your symbol portrays the new giant ring, we're looking at DEATH 2.0, new and improved with an ephemeral giant mega sickle of widespread mass destruction, death and culling. Hence the reference in your dream to a grindhouse horror movie.
The phrase "born into a world darker than a sinner's heart" probably refers to the dark side of Iapetus, one of Saturns moons, which has a dark and a light region shaped like the sections on a tennis ball. It is believed that the formation of this pattern was set in motion by infalling dust originating from the Phoebe Ring.
