Well, on the up side it will create jobs! I can see 1200 new jobs right away to "update" and "reinforce" our nuclear arsenal against the Red Threat™.

Ehmmm jobs paid for by taxmoney aren't actually any good for the economy.
You see, when a govt spends more they need to either borrow more, print money or increase taxes.

Borrowed money just leaves the next generation fucked;
printing money causes inflation meaning that everything gets more expensive; 
and increasing taxes fucks the economy and consequently people lose their jobs.

So 1200 people get a job and an already mortally wounded economy takes another kick in the nuts.

Wow, the GOP has found a nice way to get their tax cuts extended. Who'd have thought the Republicans would be willing to sabotage international affairs with Russia over such trivial reasoning...

But in all seriousness, the Republics know the Democrats will be willing to extend the tax cuts in order to keep good ties with Russia and follow the START. At this point it would make the Democrats even worse than the Republicans if they refused. The Democrats can still stand the bigger man if they suck up some pride in order to avoid potentially dangerous conflict.
