That's right.
Each and everyone of the politically minded folks on PD. We're hipsters.
Especially when we laugh.
And someone wants to punch us all in the face.

My paidika and I were hanging with some of her friends from her speech class a few weeks ago. One was talking about how he's not sure if we will be able to take classes next semester, because he was in a program that paid for wounded veterans to go to school for four years was changing its policy to "trade schools only" or something of the sort. In my head, I felt it bubbling up. That hideous, irrepressible laughter. The conversation continued and my paidika said "I should pay more attention to politics, I have no idea what you are talking about."

One of her friends said, "No, you shouldn't because then you'll start to care, and then you'll realize how everything sucks, but you won't be able to stop watching."

The laughter was shrieking in my brain. I could barely contain it. The horrormirth was winning, and I knew it was going to come out. I said, "And then you start laughing..."

He looked at me and said, "No, hipsters laugh. I punch hipsters in the face. If I start laughing, I'll punch myself in the face."

And I laughed. Hysterically. Uncontrollably. Hideously, horribly, maniacally. The world was going to hell in a hand basket, and I couldn't... stop... laughing.

So, here's to you, PD. Here's to you, My good reverends and doktors. Fellow hipsters, I finally understand. And I'm still laughing.

Hm...hipsters are above laughing.  At least their image of too cool for school seems to indicate that they are too ironic and life's too blase for laughter.

Laughter's for those of us who have no other avenue.  It releases everything that's pent up and yet holds on to what's important, the drive to either listen some more, care some more, or indulge in slack.

The whole "we're all hipsters" line of thought is tired, stupid, and horribly inaccurate.

Some yahoo yelled at me, saying 'GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH', and I thought, "I'm feeling generous today.  Why not BOTH?"

It seems to work on the same level as statements like "you are now playing The Game".

You are now doing <passive behavior>.

Nah, we're not hipsters for laughing.  Your punch happy friend just doesn't know what hipsters are.

When the going gets unspeakably horrible, the unspeakably horrible laugh.

A lot of people seem to be under the vastly mistaken impression that hipsters are all the same.  I know its funny to act that way, but come on, let's be smarter than that.  We are smarter than that.

No "group" is all one way, none.  Not hipsters, not Tea Baggers, not Democrats, not Republicans, not clowns, not Jews, not Discordians, not even conspiracy nuts.  These are all groups which are full of individuals, in this case individuals which have some traits in common.  So yes, some hipsters laugh, and some do not.  Fucking deal with it.  Jesus Christ.

I think that the meaning behind the thread is getting lost under the mentioning of hipsters.

Yes.  Too right.

The meaning of this thread is that Phox has a friend who is potentially lulzworthy.  We must convince him to punch himself in the face.

There are no facts, Phox.  Only interpretations.  :)

Richter

Discordians laugh becasue it's better than crying or screaming, and it's a great primer for maniacal will.  Then they do something.  They find out about their situation, and figure out how to work with it.  Even when it's horrormirthy and fucked, it's still soemthign to work with or make  buck off of.
A Hipster laughs in helplessness out of a sense of "irony", playing like they appreciate the bad situation.  Then they do nothing, they learn nothing, just like your companions said, they purposefully keep themselves ignorant.

Anyone ever think about how Richter inhabits the same reality as you and just scream and scream and scream, but in a good way?   :lulz:

I've come to love the maniacal laughter, that you just can't control, and makes you feel like you're losing it. Haven't had it in a couple of weeks, just the regular run of the mill wholesome belly laugh. I've had the unwholesome sub-maniacal smirking, but it's just not the same. I'm going to have to get my cackle on again soon.
