As full of vinegar and anti-lulz as this thread is, it is one of the distinct Discordian residues in our culture. I've been finding more and more, recently.

In the novel "Drop City" by TC Boyle, the main character and her hippie boyfriend mention the "Keristan Society" which promoted the 'free love' idea through 'zine publications. I identified the reference to "Kerista", a movement that many of the o.g. Erisians like Kerry and Camden Benares were associated with.

I had fun explaining to a class full of college kids how 'Kerista' basically invented the computer-accessible database/spreadsheets because their leader (Brother Jeb) demanded that the people living at the main center have rotating bunk sleeping schedules (which was a bitch to figure out by hand). Didn't have to have sex with your bunk-mate, but you still had to move on and spend the night with somebody else tomorrow night.

Also got to tell the awesome story of how Brother Jeb got called to start the movement. According to Jeb an Angel appeared to him suddenly one day with a basic outline of the new movement. When he asked the Angel in all seriousness why they chose him, the Angel replied "Because, Jeb, you're so Gullible."
