Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano on Friday canceled the controversial virtual fence along the U.S. border with Mexico, citing technical problems, cost overruns and schedule delays since its inception in 2005. The Secure Border Initiative-network, a high-tech surveillance system to reduce border smuggling, so far has cost taxpayers almost $1 billion for two regions in Arizona, covering just 53 miles overall on the 2,000-mile border, according to a homeland security report.

OK, I can argue this:

BY USING TAXPAYERS MONEYS TO FUND THIS PROJECT YOU ARE ENGAGING IN SOCIALISM AND WILL HAVE TO RESORT TO SATANIC "TAX RISES" TO CARRY OUT THIS PROJECT, WHICH WILL BANKRUPT HARD WORKING AMERICAN BUSINESSMEN AND WOMEN, DESTROYING JOBS.

A more convincing example of this argument could be made, but this one was funnier.

Yeah, if I really wanted to argue against this I'd say that the reason jobs are being created is that the government's making an effort to keep the immigrants out, but I don't particularly want to and it's amusing nonetheless.
My shit list: Stephen Harper, anarchists that complain about taxes instead of institutionalized torture, those people walking, anyone who lets a single aspect of themselves define their entire personality, salesmen that don't smoke pipes, Fredericton New Brunswick, bigots, philosophy majors, my nemesis, pirates that don't do anything, criminals without class, sociopaths, narcissists, furries, juggalos, foes.

Epic yuck at the term 'Illegals'. It's an adjective, not a person.

I committed no less than 3 illegals by logging on to Facebook today. I do not see how this concept is foreign to you. "illegal" is totally a noun.

My idealist side says there shouldn't even BE artificial borders that prevent free movement of people.  Nationalism is one of the most destructive human creations IMHO.

That being said, accepting the reality that exists, until I see some reciprocation from the Mexican government, I find it hard to have sympathy on this subject.  For all their talk, members of their own military murder illegals citizens in their own country traveling from south to north.

Hell, their own indigenous people, the descendants of the Mayan culture, are thought of the way blacks were here 40 years ago.  I've seen and heard it.

If I go down to Mexico and get a job without jumping through all of the hoops they put you through, and get caught by Mexico's INM, my ass gets deported and there's no cry of derision or anyone stepping in to speak for me or the fact that I have a son that lives there.

It's fucking one sided and that's something no one ever thinks or talks about.  I want to live and work down there to be with my kid, but the system favors their own citizens over any extrañeros.  If the job can be done by a Mexican citizen, they wont hire a foreign national.

That just makes me work harder to get a degree in mechanical and electrical design for large systems, where hopefully I can find work with a company from here that WILL eventually move their manufacturing factories to Mexico.

It's little consolation to my son or myself at the moment though.

Indigenous people are treated worse than blacks 40 years ago...

As far as illegally working on a foreign country, thats the standard treatment one gets worldwide...

A significant proportion of my teachers in my highschool (private) were foreigners, so maybe thats an option?

I've considered it.  teaching software or sucking it up and learning a programming language.  It's a more difficult move than I ever thought it would be, but I'm not discounting any possibility.  Just trying to build up a cushion in case things don't quite work out for the first year or so.

I got into an argument with one of my Hispanic neighbors today about shoveling and de-icing. They verbally attacked me en Espanol so I retorted with my finest knowledge of the language.
