"We are all of us in the gutter, but some of us are looking up skirts." - Enrico Salazar

Dear Roger,

Well, it has happened.  Canada's superiority bubble has finally burst, but why did I get splattered with blood and puss and smegma when it blew?  I expected the hellacious 'spoldey, but not the overwhelming gore.  All of the self pedestal sitting, and all of the alleged higher ground, have been crushed down under the boot of the Special Police.  Canada, the Shining White Knight of the World, has gleefully admitted to making up laws wholesale to keep it's people in line, it has unabashedly admitted that the Special Police were cracking jaws and smashing skulls for kicks while the leaders of the world shoved Tim Hortons bear claws down their tight throats, a few hundred feet away.  They have begun arresting people for practicing witchcraft, and electing people with the mindset of Sarah Palin and the body image of Beth Ditto.  The Special Police corner peaceful protestors in torrential rainstorms and keep them there, for kicks.

But you know what?  They deserve it.  We deserve it.  This "country" has been sitting in it's self created Ivory Tower for too long.  They don't advertise it, but this country also interred Japanese during WWII, we participated in CIA's MK Ultra progrmas, and we have tons of US bombs sitting on our land, of our own free choice!  Canada, O Canada, our home and native land, the only place in the world which is smug about how humble they are.  Fuck this place, fuck it in the neck, and thank the heavens that it finally knows that it is not above every other fucking country on the face of Planet Mudball.  It may be walking and wearing pants, but it's still a fucking Pig.

Or fucking kill me.

I liked this one, it's got that 'whoosh' of disillusionment.

Canada has always tended to mimic America 5 years later, for reasons that baffle me.  You had a system that worked, with all the goodies America has, and then proceeded to monkey-out and emulate all of our mistakes.

The banking thing WAS going to happen.  Economically, no nation lives in a vacuum.  Canada's good (read:  Better than America and Europe) banking practices protected you from the initial bang, but the waning tide eventually leaves all boats mired in the mud.

Then, I guess, we should talk about your leaders.  They'd spent the last 5-6 years trying to be just as rotten as the American government, then found out the Canadian people didn't LIKE it, and were willing to be a major pain in the ass...The hilarity involving the OPP and the Toronto Metro Police was a result.  Now the bust hit, and your leaders are scared, though they're not sure why.

Maybe it's time you showed them why.

OP: :mittens:

I have to admit when I saw the protestors in Toronto being subjected to the treatment by the police that they were I kinda had an inkling that this was the case.  I'm sorry, Hoops.  :(  But what I find again and again is that NO place is safe, none.  We may want to think it is, but it's not.  We don't live in a time of exceptions to this one rule, unfortunately.  And sad part is, when you immediately decry the nasty sanctions and despicable behaviors of one particular government or body politic that isn't your own, lo and behold the one you live in and amongst comes along and creates a carbon fucking copy.

Sucks truly, it does.

Adios

Remember way back, Hoops, when I said this is the Age of Dumb?  Rational people doing irrational things?  I EXPECT America to go batshit periodically...Hell, our whole history is based on insanity.  Watching Europe and Canada start to follow our lead, however, has confirmed my most pessimistic opinions.

There seems to be a rule that says that about every 50-75 years, everyone goes crazy at once.  I'm not sure how accurate that is, but it seems to work as a rule of thumb...Though I have no idea WHY.

More communication seems to be a bad thing, in some respects.

...it might just be one of the downsides/costs.  I think I'd still rather have more information and more access to it than otherwise, though.

Rog,

The only thing that makes sense to me at the moment is something RAW said about how system reorganize themselves into "higher orders of cohesion/complexity" which is always preceded by Weird Shit. I"m not sure what type of crazy cycle we are on, but the global communications have definitely sped up the acceleration.

Communication in and of itself is not a bad thing, but a massive communications infrastructure lets bad information transmit just as easily as good information.
