GOP Risks Third Party Revolt With Mitt Romney Due to Tea Party

http://campaigntrailreport.com/2011/10/20/gop-risks-third-party-revolt-with-mitt-romney-due-to-tea-party

QuoteHey, Tea Party Activist/Member: Are You Going To Give Obama A Second Term?

That's what Pat Buchanan says will happen if the Tea Party does not Support Mitt Romney, and runs its own candidate.

the article wraps up by basically saying "fuck Buchannan, what we [tea partiers] need to do is reach out to minorities like the civil rights movement did. Except without the socialism."

I like where this is going.

I don't even understand where this is going.  :lulz:

The GOP is trying to prevent the Ralph Nader syndrome...GOOD LUCK, FUCKOS.

The thing is, TeaBaggers think they have the mandate from heaven on anything conservative, so they're going to stick to their guns...and I think they might be beyond the kind of logic that Pat B is trying to use on them.

The GOP "grab" for all the TeaBaggin' constituents might slip and miss on this one yet.

THAT would be awesome and glorious.

Also:  I'd love to see how they figure on grabbing minority votes...as they're the ones that love the "tough on crime" racial disparities, immigration policies that keep kids from getting education and health care, and basically flip off anyone who "ain't 'Murrican, born n bred."

Dude, I'm still pissed at all the Frosh congress assholes who refuse to pass legislation because of some damned credo.

And what was their first cry as they entered office?

"WHARS MAH GOVERNMENT HEALTH CARE?"

AFK

You know the world is all kinds of fucked up when Pat Buchanan and the Tea Party aren't on the same page.
Cynicism is a blank check for failure.

Herman Cain...  Apparently, he may be a shill for the Koch Brothers.

They're still digging into it, but it appears he's collected hundreds of thousands of dollars from "Americans for Prosperity," which was founded, in great part, by the Koch brothers.

Haha, somehow unsurprising.

Regarding the 9-9-9 "plan":

Amateurs talk about tax rate, professionals talk about tax base.  That is all.

Oooh, it wasn't popular, so he updated it!  Now it's the 9-0-9 plan.

If you're at the poverty line, you don't pay the individual 9% flat tax.

QuoteAccording to the Tax Policy Center, Cain's "9-0-9"plan would still raise taxes on the poorest Americans—if to a lesser degree —based on his remarks today. "Poor families would see a smaller tax increase than they otherwise would see, but they will still see a tax increase," says Roberton Williams, senior fellow at the Tax Policy Center, whose widely-cited analysis concluded that Cain's 9-9-9 plan would raise taxes for 84 percent of Americans and lower them for the richest households. The Tax Policy Center has yet to do a quantitative analysis of Cain's "9-0-9" adjustment, but policy analysts like Williams come to firm conclusions about its impact. Currently the bottom 20 percent of Americans actually pay a negative tax rate, receiving credits from the federal government, says Williams. So even if poor Americans were to pay zero federal income taxes, they would still experience what is in effect a tax hike.

What's more, Williams adds, "those folks are still going to be left with a sales tax" under Cain's plan, which would disproportionately affect the poor who often having to consume most of their income instead of saving it. So even with the "9-0-9" tweaks, "you still have the fact that poor people will bear a higher tax liability, and rich people will bear a much, much lower one," he concludes.

Romney may be mis-stepping, here.

Florida senator Marco Rubio has been playing the "my family escaped from Castro" card, which, in Florida, plays pretty darn well.

http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/opinionzone/2011/10/21/did-marco-rubio-lie-about-being-the-son-of-cuban-exiles/

Unfortunately for him, it has come to light that his family came to America in 1956.  Castro took power in 1959.  Rubio was born in 1971, before his parents applied for American citizenship, a fact which is apparently being ignored by the birther crowd when Rubio's name is tossed around as a vice-presidential candidate.

Whether Rubio outright lied in order to advance his political career, or just repeated family stories without taking the time to do any research on them, we may never know.

Romney is stepping up to defend Rubio, calling the stories calling him out on the glitch in Rubio's story "unfortunate" and "bogus."

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5jaFZ2FYmBAUw0uNUkGM9zs2ooYfQ?docId=a073e29185db4cc9a7978f57a671ab77

No, Mitt...  It's not "bogus" to point out that a claim made by a candidate is impossible without the intervention of a TARDIS.  I figure Mitt could have done better at defending Rubio (who he could very well be considering as a potential VP candidate) by following Rubio's story, saying, essentially, "well, that's what he was always told, family oral histories DO get changed, over time, and his parents really couldn't go home again due to Castro..."

Sounds like he's using "bogus" not as a synonym for "false" but instead "a bummer" or something similar.

I heard someone who was a historian about this sort of thing and a politico to boot being interviewed on this on NPR on Friday, and he was basically saying "I have no doubt Rubio THINKS what he says is true, it's just not possible."  :lulz:
