Glittersnatch would be a rather unfortunate condition, if a halfway decent troll name.

Okay I just had another listen to All Nightmare Long, followed by Trapped Under Ice. My conclusion? Fuck Death Magnetic!  :argh!:

I've never ranked Hammett as a guitarist, he constantly seems to be trying to hit runs that are way beyond his capabilities so it comes across as kinda messy and falls out of time. This used to be okay when they were a young band and it suited them, also he used a lot of sick little blues runs to balance out the reaching too high shit. But by now he should have either learned to play or switched fucking instruments.

Yeah, I can get behind that. Satriani must be disappointed in him as a former student, given how amazing most of his other students turned out.

Metallica's newest album (Death Magnetic) is actually GOOD. I don't know why they had to go 20 years between good albums, but it actually stands up to And Justice For All.

They had to kill Napster with fire and lawyers, and then wait for one of the founders to made it big enough (from Facebook) to buy their record label.

The Universe came full circle, so Metallica can kick ass again.

Have you guys heard any Chickenfoot? I haven't been able to find much (although I haven't looked recently).

I heard little snippets when they were featured on That Metal Show.  They stand out in that there really aren't many bands around anymore that play that old-school hard rock style.  And I've always been a Hagar fan.  Liked Hagar Van Halen better than Roth Van Halen.

Chickenfoot is pretty generic-sounding, but for generic-sounding hrad rock they're pretty good. Satriani really doesn't show off much from what I can tell.

YAYYYY!!

Me either. I think he's awful and I watched some fairly recent footage (Sonisphere festival) and he didn't get any better than I remember his playing in the 80s.

His vibrato is weak and annoying and I'm not entirely sold on his intonation when string bending.
His solos have this monotonous, even, square sounding rhythm to them.
He does that stupid 'deedly deedly deedly' triplet pull off riff in just about everything he plays and it's lame.
Uses the wah-wah and fails to do anything interesting with it.

I was never a Metallica fan and I think Kirk was the always the deal breaker for me getting into them. I was a lone voice surrounded by the other metal heads who thought Kirk could do no wrong. Having watched him in interviews, he seems like an amiable enough guy, he might even be really cool to hang out with but I really detest his lead guitar work.

Wasn't big into Megadeth either, but I did enjoy Rust In Peace enough to go and see them live and to catch Marty Friedman who has more melodic content in his toe nail clippings than Mr Hammett.

I don't normally indulge in such musical politicking, but damn it - even to this day, the sound of a Kirk Hammett solo makes me hate the guitar.

My original intention was to poke fun at Dave Mustaine but I got sidetracked!

Metallica never really struck me as much of a musician's band.  Cliff Burton was easily the most talented member when it came to playing their instruments.  Too bad he switched bunks with Kirk.

I've got money on him appearing on the 700 Club in the next few years.  Probably crying about this song and how the evil record companies and radio stations keep releasing it/playing it.

Start a campaign. If it's on i-Tunes, encourage many people to buy it. If it's not on i-Tunes, bug the shit out of them until it is....and then get people to buy it.

The song will become popular and he'll have a moral dilemma as to what to do with the royalty money.

Mustaine: I won't play that song! It's evil and full of bad magic!!
Accountant: Yes Dave, I understand....but it just paid off the beach house in Malibu.
Mustaine: Hmmm...really?
