Lies

I gotta admire the guys commitment to an act.
As terrible as what he did is, it's almost monty-pythonish in the dark humour he "performed".

I mean, don't tell me you guys couldn't imagine a skit where the central character sings a jolly song apologizing vaguely for something that hasn't happened yet, and ending it with the character killing/blowing up themselves and the audience, witnessing the atrocity, at first stand around stunned and awe-struck, covered in bits of blood... a few silent seconds pass then... one person starts to slowly clap, and then, suddenly, a standing ovation follows in rhythm as the crowd regain their composure and cry "Encore! Encore!"

- So the New World Order does not actually exist?
- Oh it exists, and how!
Ask the slaves whose labour built the White House;
Ask the slaves of today tied down to sweatshops and brothels to escape hunger;
Ask most women, second class citizens, in a pervasive rape culture;
Ask the non-human creatures who inhabit the planet:
whales, bears, frogs, tuna, bees, slaughtered farm animals;
Ask the natives of the Americas and Australia on whose land
you live today, on whose graves your factories, farms and neighbourhoods stand;
ask any of them this, ask them if the New World Order is true;
they'll tell you plainly: the New World Order... is you!

Also kinda brings a whole new meaning to "And now for something completely different"

Anyone who kills themselves (other than those with a painful terminal illness) clearly has mental issues.

This guy stabbed himself in the chest multiple times. That first stab didn't cause him to have any second thoughts or anything, he just kept stabbing away. That's some serious mental illness, right there.

Formerly something else...

I wonder if he had an autopsy for drugs... wouldn't be the first time some idiot high on angel dust decides they are invincible and do things to themselves that they'll seriously regret when they come down, *if* they ever come down.

Oh oh!, Maybe, just *maybe*, the guy was like, an ultra hard core enviromentalist, and read this and decided to set an example for everyone else to follow...

Pickle, you might want to consider having some sort of sympathy for people who kill themselves. No one in their right mind does that. It's a mark of extreme and unhelped mental illness.

I wouldn't say no one.  Someone with a debilitating and extremely painful physical condition could make a logical decision to terminate their life.  or someone facing some really unpleasant consequences, like that kiddy fiddling pastor that Postvex posted a link to (ETA the right poster with the pastor story.)
You're a special case, Babylon.  You are offensive even when you don't post.

Merely by being alive, you make everyone just a little more miserable

I think if that was the case he would have given a sermon about environmentalism rather than sung an apology song.

I dunno, "sorry about the mess" could be a very vague reference to the fact we've messed up the planet and he wants to make amends by setting an example or something.

Yeah, ok, I know it's ridiculous, but it made sense in my head in that "I wouldn't be surprised if *insert horrormirth*" kinda way.

I wonder how this will affect the audience long term? I mean from a 'shrapnel' perspective, that could invoke some very interesting psychological changes, perhaps bad (phobias, nightmares etc) or maybe good (sudden realization that life is for living now, not later...).

As for the guy, sounds like he was somehow mentally imbalanced either from disease or drug... thats a shame.

This might sound sick, and guys, PLEASE don't get the wrong idea about this, but I almost wish I was in the Audience... a once in a lifetime act, literally, me being the life-theater experience junkie that I am, I'd just want to be able to say *I saw it*.

Now just to clarify that touch more.... really, I think it's a part of me just trying to embrace high-weirdness, you know, I don't actually care much for seeing people killing themselves in general, but just once, on stage, would satisfy a morbid curiosity that I'll admit I have, the proverbial train-wreak that you just have to keep staring at til the bitter end because it would almost be weird *not to* should it ever happen in front of you...

Also, on the drug note, if he hasn't already had an autopsy to rule it out, I'd be willing to bet $100 he was on some kind of drug/medication in a really high dose.
Most likely PCP, but also maybe opioids or meth-amphetamine.

Obviously the whalebone handle knives are meant to be reserved for the Priests. Common people shouldn't be allowed to hunt whales. Unless it is to give the whalebones to the priests.
