Just a thought; I know you're attached to the SCA. Nobody's saying you should give that up long-term. And, there is a point of pride in not letting him take your territory. At the same time, one of the best things you can do for yourself in a breakup/divorce is find new territory and make new friends, and do shit that is completely new with no associations with your ex or your relationship together.

Well, there's you spags.

Internet doesn't count. The only shit that counts is stuff you have to GO OUTSIDE for.

Yeah, I know, I know.

Yoga, martial arts, a hiking group... hell, start hashing! Just get out, change your life in a tangible way, and meet new people. And don't get drunk on significant dates at events your ex and his new thing will be at.

Hashing?  (Google)  That sounds fun, actually.   :D

I'm hoping he has the good taste NOT to bring her to the event where we got married, but my opinion of his taste and tact has declined significantly in the past year or two.  If he does, yeah, keeping sober enough to keep my shit together and my mouth shut is a good thing.

I'm stunned that you're GOING to the event where you got married, so soon after the breakup. It seems like an exercise in emotional torture.

It's something I need to do.

I've spent too much of my life running away, too much time being pushed around, being told what to do, what to feel.  Too much time letting other people control where I go.

That's done.

ECH doesn't get to tell me what to like on my pizza.  (Though, if he wants me to try it HIS way, I'm game.)  Roger doesn't get to tell me what music sucks.  (Suggest a band, I'll give it a listen...  but *I* get to decide if I like it.)  And NYEX doesn't get to decide what I do with my time.

1.  I'm going to disagree with Suu & Nigel, here, and tell you to keep doing SCA if that's what you want to do.  As for jackass, just ignore his presence.

2.  Yes, I do get to tell you what music sucks, as I am a Holy Man™.  And a beautiful fairy princess.

Yep.  His presence upsets me... well, HER presence upsets me, more.  Him, I can deal with if she's not around and if he and I don't actually try to have a discussion involving her and what he did.

You can tell me what music YOU think sucks, certainly.  I maintain my right to disagree.  Hell, I might even be wrong when I disagree, but I can be wrong if I wanna.

And you're a pretty, pretty fairy princess, yes.  If I could WOMP, I'd get myself in trouble about now.

Suu

What?

We'll still be here for her, but she needs to get out there more. I agree. Something OTHER than the SCA or the same social circles we overlap in. Hell, GS got me into a whole new circle of friends I still talk to despite his assholicism, so you really never know who you're going to meet. There's a world of people out there that deserve her friendship, it shouldn't just be us exclusively.

Maybe I should find her a hot Steampunk gentleman this weekend...?

If you feel like it's important that you do this for your own growth, then do it. Just be careful.

AND GET THE FUCK OUT THERE AND MEET NEW PEOPLE TOO.

I like Suu's Steampunk idea. Get involved with those spags, maybe you'll meet someone hot.

I've met steampunks.  While it's possible that she will meet someone hot there, that's not how you bet.

:lulz:

I'd say she should stick with the SCA, since she likes thumping people, and then try to find something totally unrelated as well.

In any case, who says she's out to meet anyone hot?  Having just lost 180 or so unwanted pounds, perhaps she's just looking to have fun?  Or maybe she already has her eye one someone, and if it's someone from SCA, then she definitely shouldn't leave.

This.  And who's to say she can't drag along some old supporters to new stuff?  EVERYONE needs to find new things to do.
