Back to the original story, an update:

QuoteMcCormack has three children ages 2, 11 and 17. She could not be reached by phone and it was unclear if she had retained an attorney.

If convicted, she faces up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

Fucking hell.  Amazing how fast sympathy and support for someone can change to disgust and disdain.

A fucking box on the porch?

:vom:

Why, yes, after a chemically-induced abortion (do you have any idea how sick she would have made herself to abort?), I'm sure she was all full of piss & vinegar to go out and hack a hole in the frozen ground.

Good thing we're not judgmental pricks or anything, right?   :lulz:

yeah, that's a good point, Rog...I'd probably also have gotten someone to help me...which tells me this poor soul was so very desperate, doing this on her own.  :(  Sad.

Yep.  There's precisely 2 bad guys in this story...The shitbag "friend" that ratted her out, and the population of Idaho, for electing assholes.

The sale of black kohosh is going to SKYROCKET. (And the sale of similar herbs, until they are outlawed.)

I wish they would let me yank my reproductive bits but since I'm only thirty and don't have any kids, they won't because it's "not in my best interests".

First let me just say that I'm "pro choice"  Hell, I'm pro abortion, and if you don't think you should put another person on this planet and become pregnant, then I think you should be provided the option to terminate the pregnancy free of charge.  Subsidize the procedure at the federal level. (BUT WAIT AREN'T YOU LIBERTARIAN?!?!  :lulz:)

Better we be still allowed to choose ourselves than get to the point where the state decides for us because we can no longer support the population.

That being said, this woman clearly has great decision making skills if she already has 3 children she's likely struggling to support, has MORE sex without birth control (speculation, I know, but really..  if even ONE of those children was conceived in spite of using even just a condom, she's beat some pretty fucking long odds.) and then puts her other children at risk by leaving the damn thing to ROT IN HER HOUSE before moving it to the back porch.  She should have called someone.

Her children should not be punished for her bad decisions, but they will be now.  She should have called the guy who got her pregnant or barring that, got help from her sister for the remains, called an ambulance, done anything but leave it to rot.  Hell, her sister bought the damn pills for her, where was she when it was done?

I know I'm going to get shit on for this post and we'll have to just agree to disagree but I'm finding it difficult to have sympathy for her after the box thing.  Leaving rotting flesh (call it embryonic, call it human, doesn't matter), to ROT IN HER HOUSE (I don't think I can stress that enough) puts her children's life and health at risk, but clearly that wasn't a concern for her.

I want to side with you on this Rev.  She obviously needed some help, realized she wouldn't be able to support 4 children.  I get that, I really do, but it's pretty clear she really needed more help than that if her solution was to bag it up and leave it in the house.

My initial kneejerk reaction to this was, "You're a fucking idiot."

Then I considered it, considered that the woman knew she couldn't take care of another child. Considered what she probably went through leading up to being forced into this situation by antiquated, religious driven laws ans self righteous rich idiots. Then I considered that due to the pills, she probably wasn't able to even think straight. Then I realized that she simply failed to live up to your fucking morals.

Then I decided that you're a fucking idiot.

1.  So we should plan things to accomodate those with good decision-making skills?  You might consider taking a look around you.

2.  "Hello, police?  Would you please come take away my illegal abortion?"   :lulz:

Yes, her sister worked out SO well for her, that she's going to jail (presumably because her sister has a big mouth and shitty friends).  The father?  Is he even around?  The ambulance?  OFF TO JAIL, LADY!

Nothing rots on a porch in Idaho in January.  Frozen tissue is going to make her kids sick?

More help?  This lady has been "helped" about as much as is possible without handing her over to the WBC for summary burning at the stake.

State/Local help gets her in prison.
Her sister worked out really well.
The man who knocked her up?  Was he there?

This is the wonderful world of back alley abortions that we got rid of in 1972.  It's back.

But it's easier to get outraged over a frozen chunk of biomass than The Law, right?  Right right right?  It's all about personal responsibility, and if we have to have a million women in jail to make it happen, isn't that a small price to pay?

Come on Roger, the slutty bitch deserves it.

Your sarcasm is noted.  However, Charley, you should consider that 99.995% of humans act in a responsible fashion at all times, and those who don't should be left out on an ice floe, to encourage the others to greater levels of rationalism.

Of course, the problem with that is that bodies exposed to extreme cold tend to rot and spread germs, and it would kill off all the baby polar bears.

It's hard, being an objectivist.

Yes, I tend to forget that humans are always responsible and perfect.
Now, not personally being in that 99.995% it is easy fro me to forget such things.

What concerns me most, is what is global warming going to do with the ice floes? When they are all gone what will we do with people like me who need to be used as an example of bad things?

Perhaps feed us live to the baby polar bears? Would that be considered cruelty? Poisoning those poor babies with the bile of such unclean humanity?

I'm out.   I'm in a good mood and don't have it in me today to go back and forth on this with you Rev.

We disagree on a particular part of this but not the entire thing.  She shouldn't go to jail and fuck her kids up more than she already has.  The article clearly says she moved it to the porch when it began to smell and I'm pretty sure that's a sign of rot.

Charley: I like you're writing.  I appreciate it when you provide a well thought out response.  You haven't provided one ITT.

And I only ever claimed to lean libertarian.  I've never once said I'm an objectivist.
