Not that I mind being black, mind you. But being LEGALLY black according to a Federal law which overrides State laws about legal blackness... well jesus fuck what is that? Also under former Oregon law my children were legally black, under this new overarching Federal law they are not.

My children, legally speaking, are white.

I was just listening to David Duke or Rick Perry or whatever his name is talking about how being gay isn't like being black, but it's pretty obvious that there are some strong correlations, and there is no conceivable reason we shouldn't capitalize on this.

Every single argument against gay rights and gay marriage is descended directly from segregationist arguments.

No matter how thin Perry slices it, it's still baloney.

Perry slices it by using the exact same arguments segregationists used, and then tacking on the words "BUT IT'S NOT HE SAME AS BEING BLACK".

BTW when they lose this fight I anticipate the segregationists going after Muslims next, and using the exact same arguments.

Not just politically, either. Listen: As an American, I have always expected stores to have fully stocked shelves. But they don't anymore. Our government now has carte blanche to detain citizens indefinitely with no charge. There is a Federal law defining degree of blackness (which to be fair, overrides many even worse State laws defining blackness). So much is wrong, horribly, unspeakably wrong, that when you think about it, it's hard to do more than stare bleakly at a wall.

I should be assumed that all of us Americans here are on a list. Just for thinking beyond our next wide-screen TV. Not a list that will get us harassed at the airport... a different list.
