Amina al-Filali, 16, drank rat poison last week in Larache, near Tangiers in the north, after being forced to marry the man who raped her.

He had sought to escape prison by invoking an article of the penal code that authorises the rapist to marry to escape prosecution.

This is something to which the families of such victims often agree because the loss of a woman's virginity outside of marriage is considered a dishonour to her family.

So it's the girl's fault she is raped because it dishonors her family. To fix this and to keep the rapist from jail - parents and rapist agree to force her to marry him.

Not just 'no'. FUCK NO. This shit is so wrong. Women are not fucking cattle or poker chips or incubators or walking vaginas.

So really, if you ignore the rape and the suicide, this is actually good news, because it made them realize how stupid that law was.

The point is, I think, that these sorts of things have been happening lots of times in Morocco and other countries before, and finally it got some attention. That's no doubt a good thing.
