I was trying a joke there. She said my mistake was that I assumed that she deferred to anyone. I said I assumed it because she did defer.

I don't claim to know how Nigel's thinking works. However, the ten days between January 5th and 15th was an intense period for me, I wrote about 270 posts, much of it in conversation with Nigel (and others). I've yet to re-read the homeopathy thread. I was certainly not articulate enough in the music/individuality/sense-of-self thread, but I think I was being uncharitably interpreted and attacked at every opportunity. Particularly by you.

I think chemistry can only say that if homeopathy were to be demonstrated to work (i.e. do better than the placebo effect in a suitable trial), then chemistry, or indeed science, as the (more or less) connected body of fact, knowledge and theorizing, does not have an explanation to offer.

Now I realise that you are firmly convinced that it has been conclusively demonstrated already that homeopathy does not work (i.e. do better than the placebo effect in a suitable trial). This is a view I disagreed with in detail in that old homeopathy thread. My argument was that most of the trials that have been conducted to test (in most cases, actually, to disprove or even discredit being the actual objectives of the researchers) homeopathy were not suitable trials because they misrepresented the homeopathic claim. I also pointed out the difficulties of applying double-blind randomised placebo-controlled tests (that holy grail of medical science) to homeopathy.

Chemistry understands just fine how water molecules work.  They are not fucking magic, and they do not retain a "memory".  Your statement is just as nonsensical as me saying "Physics can't say I can't defy gravity under my own power, it can only admit it was wrong if I can."

Idk why there's so much hate for Homeopathy, really. The world would be SO MUCH BETTER if people would just accept that it works! The concept is simple: where an excess of something causes a problem, a TEENY TINY BIT of it will fix that problem. This is why, if you have lung cancer, smoking an eCigarette will cure you. It also explains how fat people are made skinny by following the "one mini M&M per day and nothing else" diet.

Why the hell would I remember it? I didn't remember that thread until you referenced it... for that matter, I barely remembered you. 

For the record, Roger and I have a running joke about his ability to judge character compared to mine. Not that you should be expected to know that, but that doesn't absolve you from being a complete and utter ass when you say that I'm "easily led" by the people that I "defer to", as if I have masters I look to for leadership.
