I've been reading your posts, and I have to ask you a question:

Just where, exactly, do you think you are?

We don not take "chill pills".  We do not "calm down".  We are not pleasant.  No.  We post here because we don't calm down.  We are offended, you see, and what offends us is a planet with 7.3 billion primates running loose. 

Yes, we realize that we are also primates, but we have two things THEY don't have.  A)  We have Eris & "Bob", and B)  We at least TRY to see the filters that we've placed in front of our eyes, or had placed in front of our eyes by others.  HINT:  Drugs are one of those filters.

So telling someone at PD to "take a chill pill" is actually worse than useless, because you're basically walking up to someone and demanding that they hand their bad day over to you.  We are not this way because it never OCCURRED to us to "chill out", we are this way because we don't WANT to "chill out".

Just thought you'd want to know.

It's possible.  You should try bringing whiskey and Swedish DVDs into work.  Even with the crumbs resting on your gut, you score culture points.  Going by BBC4's conception of culture, anyway.

Even though "Modern Culture" is an oxymoron, I tend to agree. If anyone can be said to be cultured on this gigantic spinning orb of misery, it's us. Not because we are right (although we are) or because we are beautiful (although we are), but because we have the good sense to look around and know where we are, and at least see the bus coming before we step off the sidewalk and get smashed by it.

Because our culture isn't typical.  The usual triggers don't work, at least not the way they work elsewhere, and also because we have different values than a great many people.

Example:  Being wrong.  We generally tend to respect people who admit they made an error.  For a good chunk of the rest of the world, that is a sign of weakness instead of a sign of strength.

In short, because we are fucked in the head in a different way than the rest of the world.

So I'd put forth that it's not the fault of the noob, but it IS the responsibility of the noob to adjust OR to deal with the inevitable shitstorms that come down the pike.  Sure, WE could adjust, but then PD wouldn't serve our purpose.

I'll listen to doobie telling me to chill after he correctly explains the meaning of a few of hirley0's posts to me.

Every now and then I understand hirley0, so I'll be very likely to spot any bullshit in the explanation.

Problem is, I think the 'chill' is just that.  shit.  wearing personas may be fun on facebook, but it doesn't seem to fly around here.

Hence the persona "doobie".  An entire self-manufactured personality that revolves around pot.  I can only HOPE there's more to doobie than that.  You can't really blame her.  Internet society punishes those with anything resembling a complex personality.

Example:  On HFT and TDS, if you don't TOTALLY agree or disagree with the entire package as delivered, you are a "troll".  It is a binary solution set, and if you aren't 0 or 1, then you are a bug in the program.
