QuoteA teenage girl who was dropped from her high school's cheerleading squad after refusing to chant the name of a basketball player who had sexually assaulted her must pay compensation of $45,000 (£27,300) after losing a legal challenge against the decision.

There are asshats in another forum trying to defend this decision and it's overloading my rage circuits.

The Good Reverend Roger

Yeah, I remember that case.

Because it's not enough she got raped. Not enough she had to swallow a plea deal for a lesser charge because "it's so hard to get a rape conviction." Not enough that he didn't even see jail time, not enough that he stayed in her school and the school did nothing. Not enough that they held the rights of the offending athlete over the victim's. No, because she said things and she needs to SHUT UP, and now she needs to PAY UP so no one else gets any ideas about saying anything, because this rape problem would go away if the girls would just remember to SHUT UP.

She has been shown her place.

That judge should be dragged behind a truck.

Well that's a new low for today.

I really hope she refuses to pay and makes a big fucking stink. Sport in general is treated as an untouchable area which I have never understood. Running fast was important once. Not so much now. Yet the adulation remains.

Judge looks like a good candidate for a jake.

Fuck the world.

I think that Judge needs a congratulatory letter.  Or 50 of them.

Don't forget the superintendent, he's the nasty little shit that started this particular legal atrocity really.

A few flyers relating this tale at the next game wouldn't go amiss either.

Oh, yes.  Writing something up this evening, I think.

Nice.

As an aside, the kid must be pretty good at whatever activity sport it was. A statement from him would have been a show of character either way. He admitted at least some guilt so it'd be at least a fucking gesture for him to say something.

I'm trying to comprehend but I guess I'm having a hard time.

What, from the courts perspective, would be a reasonable and legal form of protest against the action that was required of her, clapping for her rapist?

Allowing protest seems to be ingrained in our culture, and is one of the many things that our "right of free speech" is touted for.

Free speech doesn't apply for raped cheerleaders in small east texas towns that love their athletes?  That seems to be the message that is communicated here.
