OK, its just one push back against an unholy tide of shit. But that is something? Right?

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has overturned some 4,000 convictions issued by him between 2003 and 2008, claiming he violated the constitutional rights of the juveniles – including the right to legal counsel and the right to intelligently enter a plea. Some of the juveniles he sentenced were as young as 10-years old.

That's one judge, and at least 4000 kids lives ruined. Restitution of $1.2 million.

That's $ 300/ Kid, split equally. I assume the logic here is that is a lot of money to a ten year old so it's appropriate.

Another angle is that this gives an indication of the scale of the horror. Assume 1 judge with similar sentencing attitudes per state. Be generous and assume there's no corruption.

That's a scary number, and that's being totally optimistic.

Hmmm this is an interesting development, because at least two other judges have been caught doing the same thing (in Oregon and New York) but neither of them have been sentenced. Yet.

What's even more interesting is that I dug a little deeper and this sentencing occurred in 2011. It looks like he appealed, and lost the appeal in July this year.

On the bright side maybe the overturned judgements and the media attention will sufficiently piss off his backers to make the 28 years stint a lot less comfortable than it might have been... Then again probably not.

Well,

Ciavarella appealed to the Third Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia to have his 28-year sentence overturned. On July 25, the court denied his request.

Ciavarella's attorneys may attempt to appeal the case before the U.S. Supreme Court.

So a few thoughts
1]  the case may not be finished yet
2] there are a couple of books out about the case, there may have been some publicity about them or
3] maybe one is due to go into paperback
4] THIS WILL NEVER GET OLD FFS it should be shouted from the rooftops everyday until everyone grasps the fact that the legal system is a] corrupt and b] racist

After two years of training and participation in RJ practices, whenever conflict arose, RJOY middle school students knew how to respond by coming to the RJ room to ask for a talking piece and space to facilitate a circle. Today, at one of the RJOY school sites, student suspensions decreased 74 percent after two years and referrals for violence fell 77 percent after one year. Racial disparity in discipline was eliminated. Graduation rates and test scores increased.

Interesting side note from the article is that it seems as though the Center for Disease Control funded some studies on violence. Are they treating violence as a spreadable disease? Seems like an interesting thought.
