Hey, Cain, what's your take on Scottish independence?

News is full of it right now. Apparently we're expected to vote or some shit. Propaganda machine is in overdrive...

On one hand I'm thinking - could be interesting, especially if it all goes horribly and spectacularly wrong 

On the other hand I'm thinking, probably no real change, country will still be getting humped by a bunch of greedy rich twats

On the third hand I'm thinking, no way is England going to allow this shit to go down, referendum will fail, regardless of what people write on those funny little bits of paper.

Well...

I think England doesn't know what the fuck it is doing.  On the one hand - full devolution = permament Tory majority, less whining from the West Lothian and "there should be an English Parliament" crowds.

On the other hand, picking on Wales wont be the same.  Also there is the thorny question of Scottish soldiers, military basing in Scotland and Scottish energy reserves. 

There's definitely an element of "rather be a big fish in a small pond than a medium fish in a big pond" mentality among SNP bigwigs.

Equally, the BBC seems set dead against Scottish independence, putting out the most hilariously inaccurate propaganda I have ever seen.

My feelings are I kinda like the idea of Scottish independence because it will upset things with the rest of the UK massively, but ultimately I don't live there and so shouldn't really be taken seriously.

I also think, if offered, max-devo will be the most popular choice for Scottish voters by far.

Haha, yeah, I'd noticed Minitrue seem to have a bee in their bonnet. Part of the reason I suspected there was no way this was going to be allowed to go ahead. Have to wait and see, I guess. This issue is potentially lulzy enough to actually get me off my arse and down to a polling station, thereby breaking the habit of a lifetime.

Well my take is that it's mainly smoke, mirrors and bullshit.

I doubt full on indepence is on the cards. Elderly people vote in droves for shit like this, and the sentiment from that age group seems overwhelmingly negative. Too much concern about disrupting their financial situation.

The various concerns that would need to be divided would drag on for years and years. As long as there are no restrictions on crossing the border, I couldn't really give a shit. Like most "votes" in the UK, the reason it is offered is to maintain the status quo. People fail to understand anything else.

Like AV. The only time I've ever bothered to vote as I thought everyone could understand "Preference" and that First past the post is bullshit. Boy was I wrong.

Tl;dr - Big fuss about nothing.
