AND IT DOESN'T WANT ANYTHING MUCH, REALLY.

My son just said "stuff is so 20th-century".

I actually got chills. Fucking prophecy.
"I'm guessing it was January 2007, a meeting in Bethesda, we got a bag of bees and just started smashing them on the desk," Charles Wick said. "It was very complicated."

MAKE UP YOUR DAMN MINDS. DO YOU WANT STUFF OR NOT?

FIRST MARX WAS ALL "THE WHOLE PROBLEM IS THAT THE WORKING CLASS DON'T HAVE ENOUGH STUFF".

AND THEN AS SOON AS WE ENCOURAGE THE ACCUMULATION OF STUFF, YOU PRICKS START COMPLAINING ABOUT CONSUMERISM AND HOW ACCUMULATING STUFF IS BADWRONG.

WHICH IS IT?

I think that I could get excited about MARX AND SHIT but I haven't, yet. I probably will, at some point, at least so that I have a more solid understanding of what all these philosophy students are on about, and also, well, because if I'm going to call myself a socialist I should know more than the minimalistic crap that's in sociology textbooks.

not convinced I'm a Marxist, at all, FYI. AT ALL. I would never call myself a Marxist, although I think I've been Socialist leaning all my life. I think that if anything, I might call myself a Nigelist.

I will and have said, however, that any economic system that is reliant upon growth is DOOMED, and that basing a society on a doomed economic system is retarded in the classic sense of the word.

for context:

Put yourself in the position of 21st century capitalism, which is actually just a carryover from 20th century capitalism.

Random well-connected American kid says "stuff is so 20th-century".

I view that as really encouraging.

For me stuff is a means to an end. If its not a book or a vacuum cleaner or something that lets me do stuff(in this case stuff means activities or something one off from stuff, like being able to use the internet.) Beyond that I tend to try to get rid of my stuff.

I might call myself a Nigelist.

Nigelist (n):
1.  One who can make even vomiting look suggestive.
2.  The political stance of tearing your lips off, bastard.
3.  One who has pockets full of torn off lips, vomiting suggestively.
