I've noticed that periods where I tend to post more tend to coincide with periods where people say the board is in a lull, nobody is posting anything, or the wrong sort of thing is being posted.

Intellectually I realize this is probably a coincidence and this probably (hopefully?) isn't aimed at me. Emotionally? Well.

Well, there's a simple test to determine this.

QUESTION 1:

Have you recently said "Roger is bad/evil/wrong/friends with Nigel, so I am going to skip past his posts and pretend he isn't here"?

If the answer is "yes", then you can eat shit and die.

If the answer is "no", then I wasn't talking about you.

QUESTION 2:

Have you decided that Nigel or Roger or ECH or Kai or anyone else is "part of the problem" or "the cancer that is killing PD" or "FUCK YOU I'M SOOOOOOO MAD THAT *insert name* DOESN'T QUALIFY AS HUMAN"

If yes, then find a fucking hole and crawl in it.

If no, then I wasn't talking about you.

QUESTION 3:

When dealing with people, do you assume that they are blind and somewhat stupid?

If yes, then choke on a fresh bucket of my vomit.

If no, then I wasn't talking about you.

QUESTION 4:

Did you come to PD for the express purpose of getting REALLY FUCKING MAD because that's the only way you can feel alive, and FUCK anyone who gets hurt by all this?

If yes, then you are Welsh.

If no, then I wasn't talking about you.

I didn't mean you either, demosquid. More mad at myself for being a crap poster of late.

Crap posting isn't the problem, and your statement isn't accurate in the first place.

The problem is people deciding that the purpose of this board is either to feel really superior to other people, or to factionalize and be a complete dickhead.

Getting mad and hollering in a thread isn't a problem.  Holding a grudge over it with the intent of poisoning the board IS.

"Crap posting" isn't the problem.  NOT posting IS.

Big Words wasn't "crap posting", and nobody expects War and Peace out of anyone once a week.

Thanks for clearing that up.

I think I see what you are getting at, though. In the past, we've tried to put ourselves out there. Posters, magazines, forum safari, fighting for the corner of the Discordian in the pagan community. When those projects were underway, 'complacent' definitely wouldn't fit.

There's still a lot of neat stuff being made and posted. Queen Gogira's work is awesome. Roger, you consistently write brilliant stuff, and there's still interesting discussions being had when something sparks them off...

But we're not trying to find a bigger audience any more. We are waiting for people to come to us... and as we've said before, PD.com Discordianism bears very little resemblance to the sort of discordianism people are likely to be expecting.

You can only get so far preaching to the choir, is what I guess I'm driving at.

A big hint is that I replied to you.  Some people are off my radar for life, as of this week.

I've been reposting stuff at other boards, trying to spread the word a bit...And with some success.  In fact, that's the reason I decided to continue with PD.  It's a good scratchpad, if nothing else.

When I first joined PD all y'all were still in the post-BIP glow.

Whoa, I never realized that. That puts you joining not that far before I did. I always assumed that you were here since the very beginning. In the beginning was the Word and all that.

I approached every single poster here with a sense of inferiority and awe because that collection of writings changed my life. It was exactly what I needed to read at that specific point in my life.

For the most part, I am still humbled by you - collectively and individually. Even posters I don't like, I have some strange kind of respect for... I guess I just want to say I love you?

As someone who also joined shortly after the BIP, I share a lot of same feelings.

I think this is the thing. I never really participated in the safaris, so I have no right to complain, but it was nice when y'all brought new people back. Everyone here is interesting to talk to, but talking to the same group of people gets old after five years or so.

There's something I should be doing to help that fits within my energy reserves (make a special effort to interact with noobs?) and I need to figure out what that is and commit to doing it. PD means a lot to me, but I've been totally leeching for at least the last two years.

Id prefer not to abandon the treehouse. I get attached to things and this place has been a big part of my life these last fourish years. I made some really good friends here. By the same token revitalizing is difficult to do and this place certainly isnt as populated as it was in '10.
I think some people moved on others had nothing to say anymore and others just didnt get along with some of us or there was some sort of blow out.

We have been complacent.

VERY, VERY complacent.

Yeah. I've been getting the same sense of doom, but instead of doing anything about it I've been withdrawing from PD and worsening the problem. I'm glad you made this thread.
Q: How regularly do you hire 8th graders?
A: We have hired a number of FORMER 8th graders.

My own interaction with Discordia and this, the premier Discordian forum on the whole damn interwubs, has been an awkward and clunky affair all the way through. I've never had a blow out with an established member of this community. I've done my fair share of shitting on the woefully and purposely ignorant. I have WOMPed things that no mortal man should ever WOMP. But I've never blown anyone away with something I have done or said. I have never Saved The DayTM. And Curly will never be seen again, no matter how many maps of the Lost Highway I draw.

Anyway. I'm rambling. I guess I just want to say I love you?
Love you too.

Factually incorrect.  Curly on the wrong side of the police line was GENIUS.
I do believe i missed that, linky?

I can't remember it clearly. I've spoken about Curly a lot.

I'm *this* close to feeling a bit guilty about the whole state of affairs. I'm part of what's wrong with this board but I like it too much to leave. Decency? I'm not aware of having ever possessed a shred, so there's that. Like LMNO said in another thread - I'm a jackass. I didn't take offence to that, in case anyone was wondering. It's a fair comment. If I had to pick a single word to describe myself, "Jackass" would probably be up there (right underneath the C-word)

Thing is I can't take butthurt seriously. Drama and delicate little fee-fees push my facepalm buttons so hard I can't see straight. My jackass nature finds poking it with sticks almost impossible to resist. The paradox is, out of all the talking meat on this planet, you guys are some of the ones I respect the most but anytime someone flys off the handle at some throwaway wisecrack or ill-phrased comment (especially when it's glaringly obvious thats NOT WHAT THEY FUCKING MEANT) as an excuse to devolve into a foaming pile of righteous indignity I find respect taking a backseat, while the jackass takes the wheel.

I'm just not interested anymore. Every thread, however promising, seems to turn into something banal and grindingly dull like weight-loss dieting or sports. Even though there are threads for those.

Still, I keep on clicking out of habit.
