Also, he's an admitted Socialist, and socialism is BAD.

Mind you, this is coming from a bunch of guys who are getting financial aid from the government to go to school.

The surprise will be coming when they hit the trades for real.  Most tradesmen are liberal as hell.

I hope that's how it is here in TN.

  I will remember youuuuuu

They're not too hard to deal with. If I don't make Jesus Jokes, and compliment their tractor, I should be fine.

Don't forget to bash Muslims, gays, atheists, intellectuals, liberals, and/or Obama to close out your conversations.

And everything they don't like is unconstitutional.

Gay Marriage - Unconstitutional
Ban on forced school prayer - Unconstitutional
Obamacare - Unconstitutional
Taking dukes of Hazzard off of TV Land - Unconstitutional

Better, but the you lost impact with correct punctuation. Please add at least 4 "!?!"'s at random points, preferably in the middle of sentences.

Currently on a screen share for work. A partner company is presenting. The guy who's sharing his screen still has his last search displaying in his browser.

"What to tell someone when you lay them off"

He's had this window open for 45 minutes. He hasn't noticed. No one's chimed in. I'm just waiting for his realization. There's no way to notify him without him bringing attention to it. It's a partner company and not internal, so it's not on my team.

But still.

Wow. This is beautiful. This is real life.  :horrormirth:

So, just gained a part-time kid.  A very good friend of mine just got his sleeve caught in the legal system.  He's probably not going to go to prison - he's also not guilty of the pseudo-accusations against him, not that that matters - but he's gonna be absent for a bit.  His wife, also a very dear friend of ours, cannot make the bills and the daycare on her salary.  So Jenn is going to babysit for her for the foreseeable future, free of charge (this is one of the reasons I love my wife so much).

It's gonna be weird having a toddler in the house again, though my own work hours will mean I won't see the tyke much, myself.

Feeling very bad for Katherine, though.  This is the first time she's ever seen just how arbitrary our system is.  I mean, she's not an idiot, she knew this.  But experiencing it is a whole different thing.

So I didn't get the new job. I suspect that my bosses pulled a fast one so as not to lose their nice, reliable workhorse, but I have no proof, and it's not worth the trouble to dig. Fuck 'em.

I'm back to pulling as much overtime as I reasonably can just trying to build a money bridge the hell out. Good thing that the call outs and incompetence haven't abated much since the holidays. I've decided that I will secure other employment and just walk when the time comes. No notice. No exit interview. One day the old, reliable workhorse just won't come back.

I'm thinking about seeking work and accommodation in the Madison area. It's about halfway between my hometown and LaCrosse in terms of travel time, so I'll be able to visit friends on both sides of the state pretty easily while establishing even more contacts in the central area of the state.

Of course I have no idea how things will actually play out at this point.

I know that feeling.

On the application, where it says "may we contact your present employer", you always say "no".

That is the plan sir. I'm very proud of my work and wish I could use my current employer as a reference, but I just don't want them to see it coming. It's spiteful, but they've earned my contempt several times over already. I don't come to real contempt very easily, but when it's there and nothing I do seems able to change the source of it I do tend to cut out what ails me. This has been at least a year in the making.

I have some very fine letters of recommendation from my dept manager and supervisor if a prospect wants a sense of my ability.

The irony is that having shed most of my emotional attachment to the organization and it's success and needing a fair amount of cash and time to plan my move they will probably see some of my best work yet in terms of hours covered and asses saved without dissent. Then it's going away one day.

There is no good reason for not saying no.  Your loyalty at your current job gets questioned, and if they value you, they will screw you on the reference.  If they hate you, they will also screw you on the reference.

Yeah. I have used the tactic, when I applied get this current job in fact, of filling in the inevitable "please explain" line with "will discuss upon interview if desired".
