Erdogan needed to legitimise his coup with as many allies as possible right, he was also seen as a sharp swing to the right, what better allies then ISIS to keep Syria weak and Turkeys presence in Syria strong

Someone suggested a theory that this was a sop to Trump, that the Turks (via a third party) sold Al-Baghdadi out because it gives Trump an easy win to crow about, instead of the focus being on the betrayal of the SDF.

This sounds remarkably likely, given how his administration seems to run.

And Russia is claiming it never happened. Not just that they didn't get him - which would be believable, given recent history - but that there was no airstrike at all.

That's a little harder to swallow. The Trump administration can't say "good morning" without lying twice, but they'd have to convince a lot of people to go along with that, to fake an entire military operation and its outcome. And then al-Baghdadi could just go "lol nope" the next day.

Like with the whole Bin Laden thing, I don't think the US would claim a kill unless they had a justifiable reason to believe it and that the target wouldn't pop up the next day and contradict them.

Alexander Vindman, an lieutenant colonel who served in Iraq and, later, as a diplomat, is prepared to tell House investigators that he listened to President Donald Trump's July 25 call with new Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and reported his concerns to the NSC's lead counsel, according to prepared testimony.

At least one Trump ally sought to discredit Vindman ahead of his testimony by appearing to question his loyalty to the U.S. Former GOP Rep. Sean Duffy told CNN that the Purple Heart recipient has an "affinity" for Ukraine.

"It seems very clear that he is incredibly concerned about Ukrainian defense," he said. "I don't know that he's concerned about American policy, but his main mission was to make sure that the Ukraine got those weapons."

Yes.  Because he was an officer, and that was the mission he was given.
