...along the more remote portions of the southern border, large unmanned gates that need to be manually raised ahead of the seasonal flooding, and then left open for months to accommodate the large amounts of debris carried with it, are already being waltzed through by smugglers and undocumented migrants.

It's even funnier than that.  During monsoon season here in Arizona, the floods pull up fence posts via hydraulic action.  Yanks 'em right up.   A friend of mine at Hook Crane has spent his entire career sticking fence posts back in the ground, that is with the far less ambitious "pre-trump" fence.
