So it appears some Supervisors/Managers at the Kroger in the town I just moved into bullied (Sexually harassed, mocked, sent illegal porn of the kid variety to in an attempt to incriminate, etc.) an employee to the point of suicide because of their concerns about the Kroger's COVID-19 Restrictions (Lack thereof) and their political beliefs (Read Left-leaning views).

Why do the wildfires always skip Ohio?

Imagine going to prison over a dead end job.

And praying in the cell every night that the Orange Shit Bucket becomes President in 2024 and sees the request for Patriotic Pardon.

Thanks, that cheered me right up

So consumed with the search for a steady income and the endless mandatory side quests here in Nola that I never seem able to focus on the writing I want to do for here. But I am alive and fairly well for all that.

It is a place of EXTREMES. Where positive or negative it's incomparable. I have only unlocked the French Quarter and St. Roch neighborhoods and a little bit of Uptown, but the sheer energy of the place is always at 11, so to speak. I have not seen the "real New Orleans" yet. I have only seen post-COVID Nola. Got some time tonight. Might write some vignettes based more closely on the true stories than might seem plausible.

We always call this place PD.com.
Today, for the first time ever, I visited http://www.pd.com/

it is a gem of yesteryear

I don't know what I'm looking at, and I don't actually care, but I really wonder how much traffic we've given this site over the decades.

Birds cannot be trusted.  They are not on our side.

I warned everyone.

A single blow to the back of the head, and my perspective is irrevocably changed.

Is this a kind of enlightenment?  But it came not from the cudgel of a well-meaning Buddhist monk, but from a black-winged devil.

The crows are everywhere.  How did I not notice this before?  Every time I leave the house, they're there, shrieking, rasping, lurking, glaring with soulless eyes.  They're almost always in groups of 3 or 4, and seem to have a affinity for parks.  They are intensely territorial, and will scream continuously if they consider me an intruder....which seems to be about half the time.

Now, whenever I hear a crow, or see one, I snap into a heightened level of awareness.  I need to know where they are and what they are doing.  I am beginning to learn their language.  When I walk past a group, I turn to watch them, in case one decides to swoop down on me.

And one did, this morning, in a park far removed from the earlier attack.  As I passed, it started circling at a low altitude, perhaps just warning me off, but maybe looking for an opening to attack.  But I kept turning to face it, maintained eye contact, and it broke off and perched on a lamppost.  If it had actually dove, I would have tried to knock it away.  I don't know what the outcome of that would be, but I think I'd rather take damage to an arm than to my face.

I'm starting to think about maintaining air cover while I walk.  Directly under a tree, I'm likely safe; but a short distance from a tree, or anywhere out in the open, I'm a target.  There really aren't many safe spaces, when you start to think about it.

Crows, it turns out, are the only creatures other than humans to "know what they know".  They do this intentionally, not as some kind of instinct.

Exterminate the brutes.

I lived in Adelaide for a year, and the crows were crazy for swooping at cyclists. We used to paint eyes on the back of bike helmets so they wouldn't bumrush you. If you don't see them swooping it scares the pants right off of you which then catches in the spokes of the bike and the birds feast on your broken body.

I used to type that in on a daily basis back in the day. :argh!: I eventually just bookmarked the forum... But it took me a loooong time to do that. I was a working web dev at the time, too.  :lulz:

So, my mother was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer this morning.

This is apparently not unusual for breast cancer survivors.  She's other wise healthy and in good spirits.  Her prognosis is fairly grim but not hopeless.

Yesterdya the doctor had to do a blood draw to get my levels because HRT needs that shit so you don't drown in your own hormones. Then i started listing a litany of incresingly terrible symptoms I had been having that seemed related to the anxiety meds i'm on, and she was like "hmmmmm.... anemia maybe? we'll just get you tested for everything under the damn sun!"

Today I created a Facebook account; I had a question to ask of the university's fruit tree program, and this seemed like the easiest way.  (I had an account a while back, but I never used it, and was getting annoyed by the spam, so I deleted it.)

Anyway, I set up the new account, and posted my question.  I came back a little later to check for a response, but my browser autocompleted to https://www.facebook.com/HolyNonsense/, since I guess I'd followed that link a while ago.  And since Facebook doesn't let you see much of anything unless you have an account, I decided to browse a bit.

I scrolled down the Holy Nonsense page, and then YOUR ACCOUNT HAS BEEN DISABLED.
 :)

There was no reason given for this, but I guess that's normal.  I clicked through to request a review.  It asked for my picture to confirm my identity, but since I'd never sent Facebook my picture to begin with, I sent a random picture of a cat sitting under a zucchini plant; they can make of it what they will.
