Quote from: HoshikoHere's what I'm saying: Look at every good, successful movement of and for and to confuse the people. They all had anger as a base, yes. They had people congregating. We've got that, check. But they had someone showing them a direction, giving them the the specifics once they were angry. I don't see that on this board (well, some minor stuff on OM).

You might be right, though. It might have pissed me off enough just to do it my own damn self to stop the kvetching.

Direction?

Not much of THAT, these days.

For example, look at the anti-war rallies, etc. Just about everyone carrying a sign has a sign that deals with something totally unrelated to the demonstration (PETA, etc).

Most so-called "liberals" have become what they fear most...DUMBASSES.

We, on the other hand, are better off without direction...as we specialize in the little things that booger up people's heads.

who ar WE roger? i'ma simple man, and cannot understand. tell me why WE are so different thanTHEM.

unless of course, youwant ot ignore the direct queston as usual for you. i know i'm notworth paying attention to.
Hell is other people.

Ralph is being held without writ of habeus corpus in a secret prison camp in Montana...for the crime of realizing that ALL consistency is foolish.

Quote from: HoshikoI'm not talking about liberals. You don't have to be a liberal to mess with people. Politics can be very grey. Besides, PETA was doing pretty well last time I checked (which is a shame), because they give people useful steps they can take, good information. Substence. Which is why people carry their signs even at anti-war rallies.

And I'm not talking about rallies in general. I'm talking about creative direction. And, if it's possible, shared experience. We're lucky in that we don't have to be as focused or large. We can utilize people with many different interests and peculiarities and numbers.

PETA is just plain wrong.

let me preface this statement by saying that I think that people who abuse animals should get the chair.

that said, the fact that PETA spends so much time and effort on this when there are children starving in the streets of Americorp(tm) kinda rubs me the wrong way...

Kinda like in that episode of "South Park" when Stan got banished and sent into the wilderness on a horse, and the PETA members rescued the horse and threw Stan on the ground and cursed him and dumped fake blood on him....

  Humans are animals too...did they ever think of that?

And Turd, what makes you think that people are gonna post their big triumphs here? KYFMS, remember? Not all of us are into grandstanding or getting arrested, infested, inspected, detected, infected, etc...

This is the correct covert victory.

This is a place, IMO, for inspirational ideas, rants, etc...not a place to provide the CoN with evidence to use against you.

Exactly. I don't like their standards, and I don't like their view of "animal rights even if it means human suffering." But they're smart. As much as I dislike their policies I have to admit that they've gotten alot done by simply fighting corporate fire with fire. When you think of animal rights organizations, you think of PETA. The outrageous tactics and statements they use are mostly just for the free advertising, and they use the money they get from new sponsers to fund their real legal battles.

I'm all for animal rights. I won't try to push animal rights at the expense of human rights, and I won't be stupid about it. PETA does well not because they should do well idealistically, but because they tell people "You're for animal rights? Look at us, a big organization that wants the same thing as you do! Join us and give us some of your time and money, and we'll tell you how you can actually make a difference."

It's effective. There are a few animal rights organizations that do much better, that are smart about animal rights. They don't get as much money or as many memberships because they're not as clear about their intents and purposes. They don't really advertise, because that's more money they don't have.

But they're effective also, because they still have one thing in common with PETA, which is, again, direction. They sell people on the idea of being a part of something bigger than themselves. They use that to their advantage.

Pay attention to the organizations and movements that work. Learn from them. And if you see someone who is interested in the concept of chaos but needs some direction, encourage them. Whether you do that by example or by tutorial is up to you, but it's a hell of a lot more effective than ranting about what they're not doing.

Turd's rant probably took some effort to write. What would happen if everyone took all of the effort they put into ranting about how much this board and the people on it suck, and put that into writing techniques or pointers in OM? It's a very small step, but things like that snowball. The pessimism and "this place used to be great"-ism here just kills me sometimes. I'd love to see less bitching about the games in apple talk, and more fresh ideas, new energy.

You can't tell me that you don't encourage your friends and those around you to be more chaotic and creative. I'm almost positive you don't give them lectures on playing poker instead of focusing on chaining all the shopping carts at a supermarket together. You probably understand that there's a time and a place for both. Why should that change the second you get onto a message board?

What, exactly, have they accomplished?

They are the monsters of the left...they give lie to the idea that either wing of the American POV has any concern for the people of the nation in which they dwell.

They are Nazis, and I spit on them.
