You only need to know one thing about Utada Hikaru.  Her voice is like someone taking the world's finest alcohol, distilling it until one drop is a bottle's worth of potent happiness, and then cramming it into a vocal form, whose gestalt is a Japanese woman singing, and that singing happens to be liquid orgasmic ecstacy cascading through the neurons of your existance.

Also, she's a chick.  Parents were a famous singer and either actor/playwright, it's early and I can't remember the specifics of the one parent's career.  Brought up in a America.  Biliginual: English/Japanese.  She's got a successful career, and wrote and sang both the English and Japanese themesongs from the Square/Disney game Kingdom Hearts, known as Simple and Clean/Hikari(Light) respectively.  Lyrics in English and Japenese Follow:
