that's pretty awesome.
and then it got eaten by a train.
Did you guys see the photoessay someone did of taking a trip on one of those, on an abandoned track in the middle of nowhere? It was REALLY COOL.
please don't provide a link or anything, you know we hate that.
I actually would have provided a link if I could find it... I was honestly just wondering if maybe iPhone Mantis had seen it, since he is interested in these gadgets.
No, I've seen a lot of train related photo essays but never one of those things. Do you know who did it?
No idea, it was just this fantastic essay of these kids taking one on a jaunt on these ruined old tracks that went through swamp and ended in a twisted mess, after which they went back. SOOOO COOOOL.
OHHHHHH but while I was searching for it, I found THIS:

I see many happy weekends in my future.
Heh, I've found some pretty cool stuff exploring railroad tracks before including a hidden horse farm with no roads or trails leading into it (bizarre), a pot field and a few moonshine distilleries.
Damn.
I live in the south and I never find cool shit like that.
Keep looking, you're bound to find something cool eventually. Then again, you do live in Florida...
I wouldn't even call that the south really. EDIT: The south seems to stop as soon as you reach Florida.
Go exploring in a dense forest for a day if you can find one, you'll probably find at least one cool thing.
Yesterday I did some half-assed parkouring through a bunch of cut down trees (for those of you who are wondering, this is a very bad idea, fallen trees are not very stable) and ended up almost slamming into a hobo shack just past the treeline. Nobody was in it though.
I love finding stuff like that.
this is very near where I live:

i've never been there but several friends have. They said it looked like someone had cleared the roadway areas fairly recently. Very interesting/mysterious area.
I guarantee if you look for long enough you will find cool shit no matter where you are. Consider getting a part time job at a shitty local newspaper to find cool things or just drop by and ask them where you can find cool shit. Historical societies are another good place to ask.
Eh... we have some deep south. There's a lot of swamp here. ~cue banjo~
I'm just not going anywhere near it.
The rednecky parts of this place (like Bithlo and Christmas) scare the hell out of me.
Maybe St. Augustine has something interesting hidden somewhere.
Hate to say it, but the rednecky parts might have some very cool stuff. Also, if you explore urban places most people never go you'll find cool stuff (i.e. sewers, closed down subway tunnels and other creepy places).
lolsubway
just outside my home town, in the woods some mother fucker built munchkin land.. tons of miniture buildings with all kinds of weird shit.... very creepy!
I could never do urban exploration though... all that wandering around in the woods at night breaking into buildings that look like horror movie sets while dodging mysterious men in mysterious uniforms is just too creepy for me.
The urban growth boundary here means that there are very few abandoned places in the city, but there is good stuff outside the city.

I prefer rural exploration, all the creepiness with a third of the actual danger.
BUT WHAT IF THERE ARE ZOMBIES
That there is why I has this here scattergun:

...and of course, zombie repellant:

the number one rule of anywhere that's dark is that THERE ARE ALWAYS ZOMBIES.
Subway hobos are a different breed.
probably.
the ones we have here are all hairy, tanned, STINKwarts on the ass of highway 50.
i imagine subway hobos to be like those albino lizard things with no eyes that live in caves and never see the light of day that are there one minute and when you turn your head they disappear

This is true. Park rangers are less likely to shoot first.
Speaking of albino lizards, on Monday when I was down in The Hole I saw an adult Giant Pacific Salamander AND several albino fish, one of which was at least 6" long. I wish I'd brought my camera!
Also, when we were near the bottom we smelled spray paint, because other people were in there with us. One of them was apparently named "Claire", because she wrote her name on the wall, along with a picture of a lion, a dinosaur, and something else I don't remember. They were gone by the time we got up near the top though, probably scared shitless by whatever freaks were coming up at them from the bottom.

Jesus, fuck. Had
not not heard about that.
Crimethink. I love the future.
Heh, it's been around for a while. It's accuracy is questionable at best. From what I've heard it's misused more often than not because people rely too much on the technology and never really bother to learn how to properly interrogate someone. Things like polygraphs cannot and do not detect lies, but they do assist the investigator in more closely monitoring the person's reactions to their questions and statements.
If you want some real lulz, check out this shit:

This is software they threw on a laptop and charged government agencies $10,000. The "doctor" in charge of the company got his "doctorate" from a 6 hour course at a fucking bible college hosted in a storefront. For a while many agencies used this piece of shit and a number of people were wrongfully convicted. The military used this too unfortunately.

I am using that.

Voice stress analyzers are actually pretty commonly used already in a wide variety of settings. What was fucked up about this was that the guy marketed some voice stress analyzer software thrown on a laptop as a $10,000 lie detector.
