DO WHAT YOU WANT TO SAY YOU'VE DONE
For starters, grow a pair.
Make a decision, and then stand by your decision. Don't equivocate or sit on the fence, trying to avoid having to take action and shape your own life. Take action, and then run with it.
You're probably going to fuck it up. It's probably going to go wrong, or you're going to realize that what you thought you wanted isn't actually what you want, and you're not happy.
Who the fuck is actually fucking happy?! Seriously.
But grow a pair and keep TRYING. Don't just keep sitting on your ass, wondering when life is going to wander over and hand you everything you ever wanted. It doesn't work like that. Stand the fuck up, open your goddamn eyes, and take what you want. If nothing else, at least fucking TRY.
And if it doesn't work? If you don't end up happy and satiated like you thought? Then try something else. Keep trying. Accept that you made the wrong choice, and learn from it. Accept that maybe you're not as infallible as you'd like to be, that you are not fucking perfect. But at least be ballsy enough to try, instead of just sitting there thinking "Well, suppose I'm NOT perfect. Why bother?"
Because if you don't bother then you're just some stupid fucking lump that sits on their ass and worships the fucking teevee.
What, exactly, differentiates you from every other sack of meat perambulating across the surface of the planet? Can you think of anything?
Then get the fuck up off your ass and try to find something, make something, be something. If you aren't scared, if you aren't angry, if you aren't confused, if you aren't thinking, then you aren't doing it right. Grow the fuck up and stop waiting for the stars to align for you. Go out and at least partially make up for the space you are stealing, or so help me, I will come after you and put you through a blender so you don't take up so fucking much of it. Stop using my goddamn oxygen! What the fuck makes you think you deserve it?
YOUR LIFE: AND NOW WHAT?
Nice rant. I have a little conundrum for you: I am not scared, I am not angry, I am not confused, but I am thinking. What am I?

I have some ideas, but I want to get some input from all of you while I try to put these ideas into words.
Basically, it comes down to the "government is a social fiction" thing.
I wonder if the journalists and their bosses pay enough attention to the forums for that to have any real effect?

Do you mistrust each and every word you see written down, looking for whats written behind them?
Who the fuck are you to question how I feel? :D
Nah.
I think that sort of thing will not be impressive.
First thing is first, we have to identify where the people who get their news get it from. At least online. I can think of a few places, but there are many. Then we have to co-opt them. Then we prepare the field for whatever we intend to do.
What we intend to do is the problem. Accurate reporting = boring (hard to turn into a soundbite). False rumours which will be damaging to the reputation of the company (much easier, but the question is that of creating a story which is damaging but will not be sunk by the lawyers). We could turn up the noise signal ratio no end - this has some potential. Alot of newstations rely on bullshit and celebrity news to fill the time between their allegedly serious parts. If during those serious shows, the phones and emails were flooded with long and meandering messages by crazy people, then the signal ratio is heading much closer to zero.
They want people, Joe Public, to do the work of providing content, but in return they tend to provide crap reporting. So why bother to do anything but give them crap back?
The above expression would be a good way to market it as well, I think.
Much of this discussion should be in O:MF, no?
Well, here's a thought. Lots of soldiers are willing to talk about their experiences in Iraq.
I say let them. A Youtube video of a shadowed cameo with a veteran talking about what really happened. Not the glossed over version. It would be a first step in discrediting the media, and with the sheep that listen to them it could snowball eventually into everything they say will (and should) be considered untrustworthy. As a source a guy that was there and in the mix would be a bit difficult to discredit. If our sources came under scrutiny we could always follow the same rules the media have been following and play the "Why don't you support our troops you must be a terrorist" card.
With some thought this could be very successful as in their arrogance and rush to get something on the air they have forgotten to cover their trail very well.
Something learned during the "dirty hippie question authority '70's" was that it didn't seem to
accomplish very much to challenge the viewers... but the fastest way to get the attention of
a news organization was to confront/challenge/embarrass the advertisers.
That seemed to garner much more coverage.
Net I printed out a bunch of the posters last night. Left a couple in the School of Management building on campus where I had class, in those clear sleeves in the restroom stalls labeled "for student government use only." :D Also, hung some up in the pub I hit after class. The couple at the next table was trying to read it from a distance and kept giving me weird looks! They look awesome printed out.

I think I understand where you're going with this.
Nobody listens to a bunch of rambling liberals, because the public's preconceived notions about the truth more or less filter out the truth. They don't actually
listen to the message. The way to make them listen could be engaging their anchormen/women in debate and discredit them by showing the phony nature of their reporting. The fact that one of "their guys" is on air makes them more receptive to any message that is broadcast.
Sound like it makes sense?
(PS I still think it's a bit of a pity I can't do any OPs in America myself. I guess I'll just focus on the Dutch bullshitters and hopefully gain some experience that way.)

There may be a possibility that you have something to contribute.
However, the method you are currently using to try to communicate that "something" has proven to be ineffective.
So much so that it appears to most of us that there is no message in your medium.
And because we have tried to let you know this (in various ways), and seen no discernable effect on your communication methods, the initial conclusion reached is that no, you don't have anything to contribute.

The phrase "The Medium is the Message" was his shorthand of saying that the way things are communicated affects what is being communicated; and that new media, regardless of message, can shape social forces.
However, what I am saying is that other than the fact you're typing on an online forum, which is a form of media that has re-shaped social dynamics in the last decade,
you aren't actually saying anything.

We should be getting on with the thread. There are some real matters to discuss. Like: if you could convert someone to Discordianism, would you? Or would you rather let the ELF do its job?
I guess a total conversion isn't necessarily a good thing. You merely replace one stupid and meaningless paradigm with another.
The trick is sending someone down a road that will end up to be an effective conversion, but also teaches people something along the way.
Something like... out of the box thinking?
And I think I understand my fear now... I'm ready to be an omnivore as well.

Janvier,
I think the problem is that your not communicating to your audience as much as to yourself. The artist can pick any medium, but he will be successful, only if that medium relays his viewpoint in a manner that can be processed by other monkeys. I love to grok non-standard communication, I like hunting for the bones and honestly, I think a lot of people miss the value of 'esoterica', symbolism and metaphor.
While I enjoy reading RAW, Crowley, Gurdjieff, Joyce etc., and I enjoy digging into their models and symbols, I don't see anything approaching that with your writing. Mostly you seem to be trying to do what they did, without succeeding, at least, that's how it appears to me. Just because you hide your ideas behind lots of nonsense doesn't make the idea any more valid.
You may have valid points, but they don't seem to be showing up on anyone's semantic radar in a useful way. Either you have the wrong method of communication for your audience, you're far more clever than any of us or something crazy has happened to the reading comprehension skills of most members of the site.
I'm thinking it may be the first one.

Wrong method of communication?
Yes -> I should change.
No -> keep going
You're far more clever than any of us?
Yes -> Well, I am the smartest Young Whippersnapper. You are more experienced, but I learn faster.
No -> You need to teach me, I must be some kind of idiot :(
Something crazy has happened to the reading comprehension skills of most members of the site.
Yes -> SOMEONE OR SOMETHING MUST BE FUCKING WITH THEM!
No -> Then PD and I would not be very compatible would they now?
Are you sure it's the first one?

Janvier,
I think the problem is that your not communicating to your audience as much as to yourself. The artist can pick any medium, but he will be successful, only if that medium relays his viewpoint in a manner that can be processed by other monkeys. I would say that you're probably a Discordian in the tradition of Erisian Enlightenment that I tend toward. However, you seem to be stuck in repeating the mantras from 20 or 30 years ago... Mantras that have been heard, investigated and discussed. It doesn't appear that anyone (AND PLEASE, ANYONE, CORRECT ME IF I"M WRONG), is getting information from your posts... there are words, there are old ideas... but no Information (information needs to contain new data in order to be useful).
Just take a step back and consider what your aim is. If it is 'to be like the PD' then you're failing... for the PD is full of nonsense and symbols, but it was an independent and creative work... thus it had Information. If instead, its to share ideas with us, then please change your communication method to fit your audience.
Remember, just because its silly doesn't mean its Discordian... and just because something is Discordian doesn't mean that anyone cares ;-)
Consider; that's all I'm saying.

The sort of "war" they demand would indeed distract many from the realization that essentially many aspects of our social democracy are under threat, or have been reversed thanks to aspects of neoliberal globalization, and that instead of demanding a government that is looking to create a fairer and better British society, that they demand one which protects them, and plays into the hands of people who make a living and base much of their political influence on fear-mongering and exaggeration of threats. Naturally, the differences in the UK, of a more institutionally established social democracy, of a greater Muslim population etc mean there are bound to be differences in the processes and presentation of such methods, but I believe the underlying logic is still present.

Of course, he doesn't care about that at all. It's only us believing it's "bad" to shit all over content.
Doesn't matter. I'm going to split everything irrelevant in all three posts (plus mine), and merge them into a thread he can use for his masturbatory crap.

A sophism is taken as a specious argument used for deceiving someone. It might be crafted to seem logical while actually being wrong, or it might use difficult words and complicated sentences to intimidate the audience into agreeing, or it might appeal to the audience's prejudices and emotions rather than logic, i.e. raising doubts towards the one asserting, rather than his assertion. The goal of a sophism is often to make the audience believe the writer or speaker to be smarter than he or she actually is, e.g., accusing another of sophistry for using persuasion techniques. An argument Ad Hominem is an example of Sophistry.
A sophist is a user of sophisms, i.e., an insincere person trying to confuse or deceive people. Sophists will try to persuade the audience while paying little attention to whether their argument is logical and factual.

The term sophism originated from Greek sophistes, meaning "wise-ist".
Also from Wikipedia.

I've never really listened to punk out of fear of becoming a smelly ill-dressed vegan with a mutilated body and shit for brains.
Wow, that's too bad. I listen to punk, and I am a well-groomed omnivore with a tattoo and graduated with a 3.7 GPA.

How about some intellectually challenging music? (http://www.filefactory.com/file/444c6f/n/Radio_Free_Vestibule_-_Sketches_Songs_And_Shoes_-_07_-_The_Ballad_Of_Marshall_McLuhan_mp3)
Thanks. I'll take a listen to that when I get home.
Well, I listened to it. I'm wondering where you got the idea that it was intellectually challenging.
Kinda clever? Yeah, I suppose. It's a mock country western song about Marshall McLuhan ("Marshall," get it?), but it really doesn't offer any challenge. Even if you can't grasp the meaning of the quotes they lift off him, you don't have to. The joke is the juxtaposition of borderline post-modern gibberish against a "Rawhide"-esque melody.
I thought for sure you were gonna lay something like this snazzy little number (http://mihd.net/p8n0ys4) on me. I mean, if we're talking about challenging most of the traditions of the musical canon, that is.
But all in all, you really missed what I was saying about Joey Ramone, and how it actually answered your question perfectly.

A good history up until 1993. Their later works (Silence is Sexy, Ende Neu, and Jewels) are, for the most part, highly restrained and delicate stuff.
They have 3 "best of" albums, from the various points of their career: Volumes I, II, and II of Strategies Against Architecture. Those are great starting points, if you're really interested.
Excellent, I'll check it out!

The sophists also "played dumb" (Socrates) in order to lead the person they were communicating with towards a desired result. They actually lead the conversation by seemingly innocous chatter until the person had discovered something about themselves through the sophists unknown guidance. The sophist in turn may have learned something from the person he was speaking to and it became beneficial to both parties to partake in these conversations.
You fit the description of the modern day sophist. The modern day sophist "plays smart" and is unwilling to learn anything from the person they are speaking to and boasts their superior intellect with no actual evidence as to why they are superior. The modern day sophist is a leach to society. They allow for no contribution and as much as they want to teach others to free their minds, they are completely unwilling to do so themselves. To say you're more intelligent than a person provides the opposite.
I'm just saying. If you want to continue to surround cliches with drivel and suspect that it's art then be my guest. I'm no more intelligent than you, but the same goes in reverse. The difference is I listen when people speak before I choose to reject it or accept it is a logical argument and I stay unabrasive.
But this is teh intranetz. You can do whatever you want here.
