So guys, I am making a cake on Wednesday. I think I've selected a recipe, but I don't usually make straight up white cake. Usually whatever cake I make somehow involves alcohol (boozemuffins, Guinness cupcakes, etc). I'm a little flustered and confused now.
So, does anyone have a preferred white cake recipe? I'm leaning toward a basic white cake I was told is moist, or adapting Amy Sedaris' cupcake recipe to cake. But you kiddos sure do make some tasty stuff, so, POST CAKE ITT.
I will post results come Wednesday. There will be epic win (hopefully).
I got all excited, thinking this thread was about CAKE (http://"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cake_(band)").
One of my favorite bands.
It is statistically probable that I will listen to Cake while baking cake, as it is one of my preferred soundtracks for kitcheny fun times.
My mother-in-law used pineapple juice in our wedding cake. It was awesome! We've also discussed using egg nog instead of eggs and milk come Christmas time, so even though you can't do that yet, it's angel food for thought.
Egg nog?!
...
:fap: :fap: :fap:
Woman, I like the way you think.
It's just measuring it proportionally that's going to be tricky.

I listened to them when they first got exposed an all. I should get some of their tunes.
Also they are supposed to be in New Jersey sometime soon at the Starland Ballroom.
Adjust baking time appropriate for cake, and this recipe (http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/AMY-SEDARISS-VANILLA-CUPCAKES-236125) should be delicious. I've used it a few times. Yum!
........I should have done this earlier.

That's what I was thinking. Word. I will definitely do that, then, now that I have encouragement!

I also cringe whenever I see WORDS ON A PICTURE, especially when those words are tired old phrases from the unfunny arsehole of the internet.
Things aren't as funny when they're all over the internet being constantly repeated.
.......but it's a lie.
No, it's not. I'm baking it on Wednesday for the boy's birthday. THERE ARE NO LIES HERE! Are you saying I'm lying about being good to my boy? IS THAT WHAT YOU ARE SAYING?! :evilmad:

First of old...it's a fucking old meme. And 2nd of all, if you actually played the game to completion, you'd see the fucking cake at the end! But considering the kind of intelligence as boasted by the rest of the CoG refugees, I can guess that Portal wasn't exactly your kind of game. I'd recommend something that requires a lot less thought.

To be honest I've only played Flash Portal.
I've never played the game because I haven't bought it yet.
However it is on my to-get list. I really would like to play it.
It's awesome, but short. OTOH, the awesomeness might have worn off it had been longer.

DC and Suu: I've made eggnog cake before--called "Eggnog Bread"--and every year I make it, my husband complains it's really cake. Because it is. Let me see if I can find the recipe.
For now, before eggnog comes out in the stores, eggwhites, sugar, oil and flour are your friend. I'll look online for something for you I've used before in that arena, too.

Ok, that's a good recipe there. And this is close to the eggnog recipe:

EGGNOG CAAAAAAKE :fap:
I give it away for presents. It kicks ass...and the trick is to slightly underbake it to keep it moist.
ZOMG EGGNOG CAKE
I am so excited :D
Eggnog cake sounds AWESOME.
Related, but not quite the same, my friend Lori gave me a recipe for baked French toast which is really more like bread pudding. You pour a bit of caramel in the bottom of a baking pan, then lay down slices of challah, and then pour beaten eggs and cream with cinnamon and sugar, prepared the way you usually prepare eggs for French toast, over the whole thing. Let it soak a bit, then bake at 350 for 45 minutes. When you bake it, the best part is that the layer between the caramel and the bread becomes a sort of creme brulee.

SWEET BABY JESUS
I must make this.
Oh hell yes.
Bleh I hate gooey french toast.
It's odd, but some desserts are just so much better ooey gooey and warm, some are better crispy or cold and hardish (not gummy).
Bizarre.

Unfortunately, I don't have a recipe because I ate that at some restaurant that is no longer in business. But the sauce was like a liquid glaze/icing made from powdered sugar, bourbon, and vanilla.
Sorry.

No, the game is about logic and problem-solving, the cake was just Valve being witty. You were more than half-way through by the time GlaDOS mentions that you will be baked and then there will be cake, and in fact, I had that whole quote on my AIM profile for a solid MONTH before it became a meme. I'm such teh trendsetter.

Definitely easy to improvise--it sounds a lot like my delicious Bailey's glaze, which is powdered sugar, Irish cream, and sometimes some vanilla or a little chocolate.
ANYWAYS:

CAKE! It was beautiful and rainbow. I got a little too excited to serve it, so I frosted it before it cooled all the way and the frosting kinda started slipping off the side and so it was something of a short bus cake, but it was still delicious.
I used Amy Sedaris' vanilla cupcake recipe and adjusted the bake time to about 40-45 minutes to account for it being a cake instead of cupcakes. I also used her buttercream frosting recipe.
I now want Amy Sedaris' cookbook. Like... NEED it. SO GOOD.
Love the look of the frosting, DC! Much better than my spagarific rendition. I also lose points because I used boxed/canned stuff because I ran out of fucking time!
Did you feel like you were eating muppets? :D

Silly putty, actually. Or play dough, as you said. It was a bizarre experience, and yet lovely. I do so love colored things!
I have half of the cake left...and now because of this fread...I have to have some for lunch. AND I put some in my kids' lunches!

That's what they
want you to think. But at the end it is revealed that the game was in fact all about cake. Cake beats logic and problem solving any day.
