Shame it's trained in the pansy Eastern style.

Dammit, I've been trying to find workarounds to post some of my own pics here, but the firewalls are blocking me, and the photobucket app on the iPhone sucks balls.

Purty horsie, but I largely quit riding, and when I do it is usually bareback.

Why thank you, el minnow, for that wonderful example of idiocy.

How about "it isn't your fucking virginity you are supposed to protect, you are just supposed to be chaste, you stupid fucks."

I hate that shit...living in NC for a bit while in high school, I never understood how it seemed the uber-fundies were the least christian people in the area.  And they believed their own bullshit.  My brother became one of them.  He is now a Flaming Baptist.

Another disciple of the "Western" style, it seems.

LMNO
-was told while learning that there are 12 lessons in riding a horse. Basically, there are 12 ways to fall off; each time you do, you make sure that never happens again.  In fact, after lesson 5, you pretty much make sure that the next 7 never happen.

believe it or not, I actually know how to ride horses (in spite of my intense dislike for them) and never in any of my lessons was I forced to wear a pasta bowl on my head.

Actually, the English crash-helmet has been around for a lot longer than the Tort Era.

They never managed to make it look sexy, though.

Post by: Dysfunctional Cunt on November 13, 2009, 07:46:11 PM
It is strange.  I went to riding school to improve my riding for barrell racing back in the day.  Never once wore a helmet.  Then, when I switched to english riding, they made me wear a helmet.  I think the english saddles must be either much more dangerous, the horses hate them and are more likely to buck you off, or it's a requirement so you can't forget how silly you look and can therefore ignore how much your ass hurts.

Beautiful horse!!!

Interestingly enough, even with wearing the helmet, Christopher Reeves still broke his neck.
Title: Re: Hrosies ITT
Post by: Mesozoic Mister Nigel on November 13, 2009, 08:54:22 PM
I think that might be because a helmet does not protect the neck.

Roger:  It's a helmet for safety.  Won't protect anything but your skull in a fall, but sure as hell useful if you crash head first into a fence.   :x  (though major injuries will most likely still follow)

Yeah he was going to be a hunter, but damn arthritis hit, so switched to dressage, lameness got worse, and he hated dressage so now he's a fat pasture pal.  I think he likes the sport of "see how many cookies I can fit in my face in one sitting" the best.

Khara: english saddles do no more damage to a horse's back than western ones do.  The key is to make sure they actually fit, which is a fault of every kind of saddle.  Also, not bouncing all over the poor horse's freaking back tends to help as well.   :x

HOLY SHIT THIS THREAD GREW FAST

I own a rather nice Stetson as well, as in 2005 I showed a Morgan horse western halter (needless to say...he lost a lot because morgans=/=western) a couple times.  It's a pretty cream felt color, with a silver buckle, but I never get to wear it anymore since stetsons aren't "kosher' for dressage.

I give you the dressage top hat!

One of these days I'll probably buy a reining horse so I can wear mah stetson (even though it's too fancy and Western Pleasurey for reining).

The problem is, most Quarter Horses and Paints have stupid registered names like "Pleasure in my Zipper", "Smooth Talkin Playboy", and "Sex Kitten".   :x :x :x

Says the girl who's horse's registered name is Makeittothebigs.   :argh!: Jockey Club!  :argh!:

Yeah, I'm definitely not going to be shy about the fact that when I got him at the beginning of the summer he was borderline emaciated, hadn't seen a farrier in THREE FUCKING MONTHSOMFGGGG, and has repeatedly acted like a spoiled brat when 1)almost had to give him back in august because of my dad potentially losing his job (they payed his board and I paid everything else for the two boys), 2)gave me shit when I turned down buying him because I can't fucking afford it/am not going to spend 3k on something I have already outgrown skill-wise, 3)basically just screwed me over, and 4)that she's a spoiled cunt who's already selling the mare her daddy paid 35k for as a 4yr old(very green broke, only 60-90days under saddle) two years ago...because why?  "I don't think she'll make it past 4ft and I want to do the Grand Prix jumpers."   :x

Sappy as it sounds, I always loved all my animals (even a fish that I put a lot of money into to try to help out).  Some people think of them just as toys or whatever.  I always spoiled the horse we had when I was younger.  The rest of my family had issues with her, but we got along good.  Same with other animals like our goat and one of the cats.  The goat was stubborn, but they didn't seem to like the rest of the family.  Now my mother has a bunch of horses.  I have respect for animals, something I notice not everyone does.  Now let me go catch this fly that keeps bothering me and release it outside.

I don't think that's sappy at all.  It's fairly simple, really.  If you don't give a shit, find something that takes less time, devotion, energy, and money to care for.
