That is all. Discuss.
Kalamatas superior. Starscream inferior.
Seriously though, try the ones that are stuffed with garlic and marinated in spirits.
I don't get the reference, but thanks. :)
Mmm ...
I really love my olives to be marinated in Garlic, Olive Oil, Salt (not too much though), (I think it has Capsicum to?), and some sorta alcohol .. Don't know what else is in it - I need to find it, but nothing can ever seem to match them!

I'm hilarious if you're a transformers nerd. Trust me.
kalamatas are delicious
also the green ones stuffed with blue cheese.
in fact, i'll eat the hell out of any kind of olive, really.
I love most olives, but kalamatas are not among them. I WILL eat them if there are no other olives, but I will slightly resent it.
Also, I would like to kill the asshole in Portland who started the trend of putting them on pizza.
I am, however, very fond of Mission olives, and most snobby foodie-types turn their noses up at those. So I am not an olive gourmet or anything, I just like them.

olives are a perfectly normal ingredient for pizza.

YES, BUT NOT KALAMATA OLIVES. GAETA OLIVES. OR MISSION OLIVES.
THEY ARE THE WRONG OLIVES.
It's kind of like feta on pizza. OK, if you're doing some kind of Greek-themed fusion recipe, but just plain weird if you start using it instead of mozzarella across the board. Kalamata olives have a very strong and distinct flavor, and the "thing" at a lot of pizza places in Portland is to use them as the default olive, which frankly is as weird IMO as serving corn tortillas with marinara sauce.
OK, maybe not THAT weird. But still pretty annoying.
ok I get the point, I'm not sure if I ever had them TBH.
these are the ones that are a bit reddish-brown and slightly more elongated than your regular olive?
I think I only had those with the pits still in them, and I hate that.

We were eating feta and pita, so it went right along with the rest. I was surprised to find an olive I actually enjoyed, other than the typical green with pimiento. :)

Those are the right olives for that context.
Pimiento-stuffed Manzanilla olives can be amazing. Also once I had these delightful anchovy-stuffed green olives from Spain that were amazing.
lucque olives and barnier olives or GTFO.
though I admit, I love kalamatas on pizza or in an italian sandwich.
anchovy-stuffed olive sounds fucking awesome.
I dont think I ever had proper pimento-stuffed olives. Only the cheap ones.
I always wondered what those red bits actually were, used to think they were pieces of bell-pepper, but on the ingredients I read "pimento" and wondered wtf is that.
So sometimes I peel out one of those cubical red bits and try to taste them without the olive.
But they never taste like anything.
What's pimento supposed to taste like?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pimento
i've also seen roasted red bell peppers called pimientos.
Already pitted kalamata olives are a must have- no fooling with the pits.
num.
horse feathers!
i like chewin around the pits and spittin em out the window, at the cats and in my friends' beer

awwwwwww...........
Poor beer...
Speaking of olives, every time I go to a bar I get the hummus plate. I love those olives that come with it.
I like gnawing around the pits.
Not as much as I love jalapeno-stuffed olives, though.
Had some olives last night, god they were spicy.
It was marinated in my favourite combos, except for the red wine which really made it burn - gotta find the right alcohol damn!
Think I'll call these olives the "Ring Burner"

Heeee! Butt jokes are funny!
I marinated some green olives in vodka for when I drink bloody maries. They tasted like vodka mainly. But tasty! I absolutely love olives and kalamatas are included. :D
I'm a sucker for manzanilla olives. My daughter could probably live on nothing but kalamata olives, which is good considering her middle name.

"Feta"?
Kalamatas are delish. I love olives in general, though, and same with pickles.

I'm sort if enamored with cornichons. I mean, what isn't there to love about teeny tiny pickles?
Just was re-reading this thread and it needs to mention pickled garlic now. Which btw goes very well with kalamata olives.

Pickled garlic! :fap:
YES! THAT is awesome
never had field peas before (the dried kind), until just now when I cooked them with lentils, garlic, onions and thyme, and I have to say I really really like them. Much better than non-fresh green peas, although just fresh green peas still take the cake.
I just made a pasta salad with kalamata olives, sun dried-tomatoes, pine nuts, and feta cheese. Now, I have to figure out what kind of dressing to use.
Olive oil and red wine vinegar?
That's sounds great, Kai.
What I ended up doing was mixing a little mayo with spicy mustard, basalmic vinagrette, and lots of cracked pepper. It turned out really well.
mmmm
It tastes even better today than it did yesterday.

Some things usually taste better the next day when they have had time to mingle in their flavours. :D Borscht especially. :fap:
Those things usually contain copious amounts of garlic :fap:
