Title: Reading the forums on my iPod
Post by: Jasper on January 13, 2010, 03:07:04 AM
...Is lame and silly, but I think it would be a good idea if there were some way to browse PD on a small screen.

While I'm daydreaming, this would allow me to find new threads and responses by topic in a minimal interface, and read threads post by post without constantly resizing and scrolling.

If someone knew how to make this happen, they would be really sexy.

I think you can already reply via smart phone browser, I'll try it when I get home I suppose

Just scrolling to see the full extent of some pictures posted here i find utterly annoying.

I cant imagine fathoming that for every single post.

It would be good for train rides though ... isn't it possible to disable pictures in the browser? Check out Opera Mini I think

Try adding ;wap2 to the end of the url while you're on PD.  You might have to remove a bit of the url first.

I post from my phone all the time and have no problems.

However, it should be noted that I have signatures and avatars turned off.

If you don't want to do this on your main account, you could make an alt account (Felix Mobile?) that has these settings off.

I'm kinda liking the ;wap2 look of the forums.  Yeah, it borders on atavistic, and I can't see quote boxes, so maybe later I'll try your idea, see how it goes.

Just tried it on my phone, looks very spartan. Useful though.

The only gripe I had with using my phone is that I couldn't scroll right and left on images that had their own scroll bar (so I had to view image). Also, gifs are not supported.

Typing a post longer than a sentence is a pain in the ass on an ipod.  Still easy navigation otherwise.

(Supports my suspicion that ANY tablet / slate PC, I'll be carrying a keyboard with it.)

Truth.  This would probably be better if it wasn't qwerty.   I'll see if I can fix it later.

...buy a Moto Droid or a Palm Pre/Pixi or wait for an even better phone to come out...

I just want something the size of a $10 paperback that combines the functionality of a smartphone and a tablet pc.

It should have one of those laser projection keyboards.

Basically this is what I want too.  Something with a real OS also, not Fisher - Pricetm "apps", or a squealing retard "touch friendly" skin hobbling an existing OS.

Some kind of Hackintosh of Win7 on a tablet netbook, with decent standby life would do it.  Bluetooth for keyboard / mouse for serious use and text entry.

You just described Moblin on the Nokia N900 and maybe Android.

Also, Felix: laser projection keyboards are shit.

If you want something bigger than a phone, get a netbook or a ULV laptop. They run normal OSes like Windows XP/7 and all sorts of Linux distros.

I'm pretty much holding out until I can have a computer screen projected on the inside of my eyelids and manipulate the virtual mouse and keyboard with my thoughts.

I have one.  Too big.

Ok, in all honesty I just want a Droid phone I can control with a nintendo powerglove.
