History with a minor in Textiles, and then I'm rolling right into my masters in Historical Textiles. URI is one of the only schools that offer it.

First, congrats Suu! Any credits accepted are good credits - less stupid crap you have to take, even if they make you jump through the inevitable financial aid hoops to get the money. The fact they took 31 credits means less non-major-related BS you have to sit through in order to do what you want there in the first place.

Second, that website's url =  :lulz:

Expect me to hit you up when I need some help in refining character costumes!

(You'd probably wouldn't be surprised at how cliquish the fashion students @ the art institutes are. I brought up some interdisciplinary collaboration when I got the entrance tour, and my entrance counselor was all "LOL, wtf! that's a great idea!" and I haven't heard a whisper since. Besides, it's the historical costumes I'd be interested in, and not tennis socks made from bamboo fiber, tho those are pretty cool. Ok, /rant.)

I myself got a $20,000 financial aid package from the university, and considering it costs half that to go full-time for a year, I'd say I'm in pretty good shape. However, that doesn't mean I won't be applying for every scholarship I can. I signed up for the Stafford Loans as a just in case. Just because you accept them doesn't mean you have to take them in the end.

We're out of giant rolls of paper.

The only other possible recourse is using each other's bodies.

Yeah, I have about 5 solid years of work ahead of me, but URI is one of the only schools that offer the major, and their textiles department is better than RISD's.

For a public school it has some impressive curriculi.

Some of the best advice I've ever heard is "become an expert in an obscure subject of which no one else has any expertise."

When I first graduated with Psych, people asked me if I would do it again if I had the chance.  I told them no, that I would BDIC in Muppets.  Jim Hensen studios would have to give me a job because, hey, none of them had a fucking degree in Muppets.

Are you going for your Masters in History or Library Science? If you go for History lulz will definitely ensue, though I have a couple of years to finish up core classes for a BA so I don't know when you were planning to start.

Library Science, unless I'm feeling masochistic (and get a shitload of aid money) and go for a dual-degree program with history. I don't recall if URI offers one, I'd have to check. Studies won't be in the immediate future because I need to, well, get all my shit together and apply.  But you'll be at URI for awhile, and I hope to be sending out applications within the next year or so.

I do know that URI, since it's a research university that grants doctoral degrees, REQUIRES that you take your GRE before applying to grad school. So if you haven't already, it may not be a bad idea to get that over and done with.  :x That test scares the shit out of me, and I'm a couple years away from taking it.

Hmm. That's odd, when I last looked at URI's MLS program my GPA allowed me to skip the GRE. I comprehend basic algebra and geometry, I just get lost when they start approaching calc and 4-dimensional thinking. My brain doesn't bend in that direction, and I don't think it makes me a bad person. Testmakers will please go fuck themselves now. I recall liking trig in high school because it made a lot more sense than advanced algebra. It just bothers me that so much of the math they test for isn't applicable in everyday life unless you're an engineer, architect, mathematician or otherwise a member of a specialized field. There's a REASON you people get paid lots of money to build houses that don't fall down, 'kay? Just accept that you're wired differently and stop trying to tell me the maths are all super-easy. Geh. I'll stop ranting now.

The GRE is required for History.  I guess because of the comprehension and writing that's required, but FFS I would rather not touch that calculus.

It's 5.  I think for the first semester I'll be part-time, just to get used to having school again, and then after that all bets are off. I'll do 4-5 classes a semester and do Winter and Summer sessions. I do not want to be an undergrad for that long. I'm too old to deal with that level of immaturity. On the eCampus it gives my graduation date as 5/2014, so they have me enrolled as a Freshman. I intend to have this changed as soon as I can sit down with an advisor. The only thing that should slow me down is progression in my minor. I plan on taking math, natural science, and foreign language as fast as possible though. I want them done and out of the fucking way.
