it's a full weekend gathering, right? Driving from NY to Boston through friday traffic is gonna be balls - I was hoping to come visit on Saturday or something?

I might be able to get that friday off, I'm going to check.

Cainad, Enki, other CT spags, if you want carpool, lemme know

I can only have Friday off. That weekend is an SCA event called Clan Wars at the RI Highland Games. I don't know if Richter is still planning to go, but I will be working at the bar.

IIRC Leln is checking out that day for joining us.

I'm not sure if I'm doing Highland Games or not.  Depends what's happening and what people feel like.

Cram: Feel free to meet up with us in Providence too for Friday, if you feel like rolling in crazy early.

Crash space is available for they who wish to fight cats, dust bunnies and THE ENCROACHING STUFF for it.  Dok has the couch

I've met the Mrs  - good people!

Also, I can most likely make any post-1800hr shenanigans as well. I know there was talk of hitting a shitty dive bar (TC's Lounge having been proposed). Anything that evening should be no problem for me. Hopefully we can all meet up!

While it is possible to pass time in TC's from Noon until Six, it is not always advisable.

I'm not spending 6 hours in one bar.  Better to walk around and see things, at the least.  Hoping the other folks invovled agree.

So, you all better sit quietly at TC's for 6 hours (I'll permit one (1) beer per person per 3-hour period max, or two (2) cokes/waters/non-alcoholic beverages of choice per same time frame) until I get there, dammit. Hands folded on laps, no talking. Everyone must remain seated the entire time with the following exceptions: 1) bathroom breaks (these are to consist of no more than 14 minutes per person per 3-hour period with no more than one allowed to leave per 14-minute period) or 2) cigarette breaks (these are to consist of no more than three (3) per 6-hour period, with no breaks occurring on a per-person basis more often than once in a given hour). ANY other movement will be met with the harshest penalties.

I hope everyone can have an enjoyable time prior to my arrival (following carefully the aforementioned guidelines)!
-TOG

But seriously, I had no intention of forcing anyone into any specific plans. Hell, if it turns out that people would rather just do the lunch thing then fuck off somewhere else, great! I'd be disappointed I couldn't meet up with everyone, but I definitely don't want to force anyone into anything.

The last I heard there was the desire for shitty dive-bar-related happenings at some point. If that changed, no worries. If I can meet up with everyone that evening (in Boston, at a T-accessible wherever) then that would rock, as I'd like to see those I haven't in a while and see those I've never met for the first time. If not, you'll all have to remain figments of my overactive imagination.

No worries, all :)

If you don't feel like going to the gothfetishindustrialpirate night (or want to do more than one thing), just down the street from there is a sketchy little place called the Cantab.  The upstairs bar is grimey and slightly foul, with an occasionally raucus bar band that could be worthy of some lulz.

Oooh, the Cantab. I love all the shitty little places in Cambridge. It reminds me of what Ybor City used to be.

Exmortis? Seriously? It was a game of extraordinary potential.
As for the Pirates, I'll be one myself hoistin' aloft His Noodliness The Flyin' Spaghetti Monster at the Fremont Solstice Parade in a few weeks (June 18th) and the Seattle Gay Pride parade in downtown Seattle the week after that.
The Seattle Atheists run this float, which makes my involvement kind of an unintentional infiltration-ish thing, right? But it's hilarious fun, and besides I know better pirate songs than they do.

Suu
Richter
Leln
Roger
Dimo & GF
LMNO
Cramulus
Cainad
PopeTom
D-Cup
Eve
Herbert (by proxy of appearance at home)
General Stuart (by proxy by appearance after we returned from Boston)
Some random homeless guy that followed us after we gave him cigarettes.

The more I think about it the more I think I may have known that homeless guy like 10 years ago.

He did look really familiar. And I just can't put my finger on it.

THAT WAS A FUCKING BLAST!

seriously, after Cainad and I got back in the car, we commented on how we had been laughing nonstop for about 7 consecutive hours. And it kind of hurt!  :horrormirth:

It was SO AWESOME to meet everybody! Dimo & Nikki, Roger, LMNO, Pope Tom, Nephew Twiddleson, you guys were a blast!

I'm disappointed I didn't get to spend more time chilling with NT and Pope Tom. You guys were awesome, it's a shame we started hanging out so early it was almost over by the time you guys showed up.

I'm just sorry Cainad and I couldn't stick around longer!

We have sucessfully re-planed Dok.

I'm still uploading pics, wrtiting out noteable events, and letting high points sloat to the top.  Dok was tolerant of our hospitality's lows and highs.  Shit, but it seemed liek one running commentary of weird from begining to end.

Thanks to everyone who showed up, the rest of you show up next time!
(and yes, next time is already in the works)

(more as I filter / get out of training sessions at work)

New York's not that far from here. Next time there's a meet up in the general area of New England/NY I'll be certain to get the time off of work and hang out for longer.

I got to hang out with Pope Tom for a bit, which was cool. Though if I have plans to be in NYC, Providence, or Maine, I'll post the info here. It's been awhile since I've been out of the Boston area, so I'm thinking of an excursion or two this summer/fall anyway.

As soon as things broke up NT and i headed to Central Sq. so I could get a leg up on the evenings drinking.  He's a cool fellow, and I'm not just saying that because he bought the first round.

Then D-Cup part II later on at Xmortis.

Next time I'll have to engage in the serious drinking with the rest of you.

SRSLY.  In addition to the normal meetup fun, it was awesome to meet Dok in the flesh.  He didn't expect a nonstop manic spree of WEIRD, we dodn't expect it of him, but we fell into it now and again.  He's a gracious guest too and was fine with shooting the shit and gaming as much as the rolling around seeing sites, or the weird, when it happened.  (We watched a bar fade form yankee to America to Tucson voer the course of several hours.)

Boston was a 10 hour streak of lulz on my brain.  Goddamn.
I'm left with one hell of a reading list, a bunch of pictures to upload,  horrible SCIENCE to commit, and a bunch of crazy experiences for the trouble.

Well worth it all.  Shit's going down again next year.

September showed up at Xmortis that night too.  Though I don't think he entered the venue, just hung outside bumming cigarettes.
Some of my friends remembered who he was.  It seems that once upon a time he was chased of of the greater Boston area (if not the Commonwealth of Massachusetts) for being really really annoying.

Roger commenting on the ambiguity of "Jesus saves from Hell" was hilarious. It was great to meet him too, since he came all the way from Arizona. The coolest thing though was that even though I am a noob, he was the first to recognize and greet me. I'm a bit shy around new people, so my regret is that the night didn't go on longer, since it would have gotten me more talkative (as I'm sure Pope Tom,  and on a different occasion, dimo and LMNO can attest). But it was definitely cool to put some faces to names (recognized others from pics posted here, like Suu, Roger and Cram). I think I've run into a great group of people here, and I appreciate the opportunity to have met some of you IRL.

Cramulus, being a professor, professed all the reasons why it was wrong to eat a hot dog with a bun on Friday, not the least of which being that it officially made the Doktor into a Really Real Discordian. Dok's counter-argument remains controversial.

Suu's addiction was fed, undoing months of rehab:

By the end of the day in Boston, things were rapidly going downhill, especially for Cram, once Richter decided to let us know how he felt about the whole sordid affair.

But Dok ended up stealing Richter's frag:

Lulz were had, pance were poomped, and applause for using the Porta-Potty was full and enthusiastic. Richter, if that high-five you gave me afterwards starts to itch, I recommend hand sanitizer.

The day was not bereft of weirdness..

as we were leaving the bar, we bumped into these two chicks I occasionally hang out with in connecticut. They were browsing for apartments in Boston and encountered us quite randomly. Smalllll fecking world!

the other weird incident was that dude at the park, September.

We just finished coffee, and had headed over to Boston Commons to sit around and annoy people. This dude named September walked up and asked somebody for a cig. He hung around us for the rest of the day, probably bumming 10 cigarettes or so in total. September looks familliar. I am certain I've talked to him at a game convention or something. I think he's one of the "harmless weird", people who are so bizarre that you'd want to keep arms length away, but they're probably not dangerous.

When he first walked up to our circle, he stopped in his tracks. "Are you guys in a LARP or something?"

I laughed and laughed and laughed, "Yes," I said, "You nailed it in on the first guess!"

September was on our wavelength. Later, he was trying to figure out what breed of weird we were. After he heard roger reference the subgenii, he leaned in--

"Do you guys have any flub for sale?" he asked, apparently referencing some subculture lost to me.

"No," I replied, "But we have plenty of fnord for sale."

"Plenty of what?" he asked.

"Fnord," I said.

September looked distressed. "I didn't hear you say anything, and yet I'm filled with anxiousness and paranoia."

Shit! The scottish diet might pack enough fat molecules to cause instant coronary thrombosis in eight out of ten unacclimatised tourists but at least it tastes good. The english diet, on the other hand, is classed as extreme sadomasochism and, for that reason, only allowed to be sold in licensed sex shops.

Cornwall isn't part of England.

In fact, as far as I can tell, no part of the UK is actually part of England, at least to listen to them (you).  Even the English claim to be Mercians or whatever the hell county they were spawned in.

It's ridiculous, actually.  187 beers?  WTF for?  Most of it seems to be either American or English, having glanced at the menu, which means somewhere there are cows working overtime.

Actually about 30 of them are Belgian and 20 of them are German. Then we have those 3 or 4 Scottish ones that no one wants.

Don't believe the hype. Everything south of Carlisle is England. Including especially fucking Wales!

Balls.  If you are from one of the following areas, you are English:

England.
Wales.
Cornwall.
Scotland.
Ireland. Ulster.
Canada (HAH!  I was born in Michigan, spags!  169% OWNED.  I mean me.)
Australia.
Gibralter.
Any of those little fucking islands off of England.
Belize.
New Zealand.
Anywhere within 1 mile of Brown University, in Providence, Rhode Island.

Fixed.

No, no, no.  That is only a small part of being English, much like the wearing of bad sweaters, the nodding acquaintance with dental hygiene, and adding unneccesary U's to everything.  Being English is a state of being, sort of like a state of grace, only backwards.

Actually, Harviestoun Brewery makes some really good beers. The "Old Engine Oil" is exceptional enough that we serve it on tap, and we have an almost unbearably stellar beer selection.

Incidentally, Dimo looks and acts like the smartass New Yorker from Band of Brothers (the one that winds up accidentally shooting himself with a Luger, although I did not witness him doing that.).

Richter, Suu, Cram, and LMNO are exactly what I've expected.  What you see here is what you get.  That's a good thing.  Except when Suu punched me in the balls at the bar.  That kind of sucked a bit.

EoC seemed very nice and calm at first, until he filled himself up with bad Belgian beer and started beating up hipsters.  Then he was amazing.

Cainad spent all his time menacing the locals and making strong men cry, so I didn't really get to know him.

Pope Tom and Nephew Twiddington were quiet, but seemed very nice.

Darth Cupcake ripped me off.  I paid her good money to kick me in the junk and she refused, citing lack of proper PPE.

Eve was also very quiet, but very nice.

Kai was a madman, but I'm not sure what he did, exactly, because he wasn't there.

Who did I miss?

So very, very jealous.

Aw.  You can punch me in the bits, if it will make you feel better.

Woo hoo!

I was totally lying.

That's okay, it wouldn't have made me feel better.

Now YOU'RE totally lying.

We should chip in and get him internet access.

Or do you think one Hirley0 is enough?

He claimed to be both a hermaphrodite and a leper in person.  We've seen how this goes over online.

I admit to being creeped out when he talked about his a skin condition and then tried to lend people his ring of power. Though it's weird, I was getting the "have I ever met this guy?" vibe too. Maybe it's a natural talent he has, I'm sure it's useful if that's the case.

By the way Dok, you forgot me.

You can't deny that they deserved it.

I immediately regretted not taking your advice and bringing the professor and myself down to Providence the next day, when I promptly crashed my car while on my way driving in the other direction. I shall have to allot more time for hanging out next time.

Cainad,
has learned to listen to the doctor's orders

For realz.

My trusty, wonderful little Toyota Camry kissed the ass of a very sturdy pickup truck and is now 8 inches shorter in the front. Radiator and A/C are definitely fucked, hood's crumpled, and plastic bumper cover is all torn up, but it seems to be fixable. I got off with a warning for following too closely and was able to complete my journey to NJ (where I got to see Ian Anderson from about 15 feet away).

No damage to myself or the other driver, but I was just starting to settle into a life where I relied on my car on a daily basis.

What's next? Lithuanian?!

No, You are an exception.  Your Dago/Greek enzymes protect you, even if you work in a den of Englishness.

Yes. But we serve more beer than anywhere else in Rhode Island. This is good for SOMETHING.

Scotland produces beer other than Belhaven?

Old Speckled Hen is pretty good, for an ale.

I said for an ale.

Also, it might not be Scottish, I just only had it in Edinburgh.

It kind of tastes like what you'd get if you'd make flat lukewarm beer out of whiskey.

I dunno, what's the deal with ale.

I will have to scientifically evaluate your assertion by visiting the British Beer Company and meticulously sampling each beer they have. Repeated samples of each beer will be necessary to verify the quality of each as well as remove skewed data resulting from increasing levels of inebriation.

I will then be able to prove you wrong, or prove you right.

I will also need other people to verify my findings.

Probably right, although I hadn't even gotten halfway out of Connecticut at that point. :x

I am now two-for-two on nearly getting myself killed while en route from CT to NJ. Third time will probably be the charm, so from now on I will only approach NJ by public transit. Fuck that noise.
