Title: I am stuck at staff duty and...
Post by: Don Coyote on September 18, 2010, 04:00:28 AM
...my battalion command sergeant major(E9 or 9th rank in the Army for enlisted, or really self important guy that most everyone in my battallion has to listen to) asked me, a lowly specialist(the fourth rank in the Army for enlisted members) to come up with questions for him to ask at this upcoming soldier of the quarter board.

I am not happy. I am also at a loss for how to get revenge upon a man that could make my Army life hell.

As an ABR, I'd recommend applying ABT to your IBCT.

Or:

As an Army Brat, I'd recommend applying Acronym Back-Translation to your Internet-Based Communication Text. For the n00bs who don't speak Military Acronese. Then maybe they can provide better advice.

What is the soldier of the quarter board?

What is the soldier of the quarter board?

It's when soldiers enter a closed room with several high ranking non-commisioned officers and answer questions while being evaulated on how they answer the questions, their military bearing.

All this determine who the best soldier is in the brigade for this fiscal quarter.

This is something significantly beyond what I should be expected to do, doubly so since I have NEVER been to a board EVER.

Why do you want revenge?  Has he done anything other than ask you to help him with the questions?  Or was he a dick about it when he asked, like ordering you to do it or you'll be punished?  Don't they just ask about the stuff you're supposed to know, Army version of CDC training, and then a couple of questions about what is going on currently in the Army?  Tell him to pick up a copy of the Army Times.

Take this as an opportunity, it sounds as though he's testing your military bearing.

I don't like the way he talks. I also do not like being asked to do someone elses work. I really don't think boards worth a damn either. It's one of those stupid Army games I refuse to play. When a command sergeant major asks you to do something it is an order. You do not make senior NCOs rephrase requests into orders. Things get ugly very quickly.

Also still pissed about the last battallion run where he called me out and made me run laps around the entire BN formation while it was running. I am not someone's fucking show animal.

It most assuredly is. Which pisses me off. I can't tell him to fuck off, well now I can't since the duty day ended close to 7 hours ago, and I already agreed to do it. Oh and I do my best not to make my direct boss look bad by being a smart ass to people that out-rank her.

:lulz:  I'm in the AF.  We do ask senior NCO's to rephrase requests and they don't necessarily make them into orders.
Sorry.  I don't think there's anything you can do except take it as the opportunity it is and do a good job.  Maybe that'll get you back to flying under his radar.

Im-fucking-possible. Once I go back to regular duty I happen to work at my BN command group. I have to figure out cunning ways to seem like I and trying my hardest but it just isn't good enough, while still being good enough. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of not sounding like a total retard, and being able to speak and comprehend things at slightly beyond a high school level. Which makes me "smart" Smart soldiers get more shit shoveled on them.
He is fucking with my head, since this is first time I have been seen by him in uniform since July, and he had an issue with the amount of credits I took this semester, while still having been given complete and total freedom to not come into work so I can focus on my not enough classes.
This what I get for helping someone else out while he was in the building.

Do you have enough time left in to PCS or PCA out of your BN?  Idk if the Army has dream sheets.  Volunteer for a special duty or deployment if you have the time.  Just gtfo of there if you don't like getting special attention from him.

He does that kind of thing to most of the other lower enlisted that work in the command group. It just rankles me more because he specifically uses my supposed great intelligence. I never have and never will like it when people  call me smart, or a genius, especially if they seem sincere. And I am pretty much stuck with this unit till I leave the Army. I've already made it clear to my section NCO that I wanted to be moved out of the BN S4(there is no short explaination of what S4 is, except we are NOT supply) and to the company supply room, but there is only so much she can do, and she'd have to find a replacement that meets her high standards.

And there is no way in fucking hell I would voluteer for a deployment. I just got back and I don't like money enough to deal with all the bullshit that goes into movement.

This cranky tired specialist bitching.

You could always try sacking up and doing your job well instead of whining like a little bitch. Sounds to me like you're being tested to see if you're worthy of promotion. Sounds to me like YOU made the choices that got you where you are, so YOU should do the absolute best you can do or GTFO already.

You just posted.

Look at it this way though, if you impress your superiors, you will have a better chance at rising in rank more quickly which means better pay and, eventually if you can get a commission, less of a chance of being blown apart by an IED.

Brief summary.
I asume most things are tests from my superiors.
I don't care about impressing most of them.
My MOS is over-strength, badly.
I HATE my MOS.
I do not physicaly qualify to do the MOS I want to do in the Army.
I could if I want to reenlist to go to ROTC(reserve officers' training corp, or go to a college, get a degree and get a commission at the end of it)
I don't want to be an officer. They have to do too much ass kissing.
Junior officers still have comparable risk to being blown up as they tend to be ones leading convoys.

I already did what my CSM asked me to do hours ago.

No, most soldiers don't whine where civillians can witness it. I like bursting bubbles. :lulz:

Hence the bitching like a whiney bitch.

I either bitch to people who don't really care, and at most will tell me to stuff it, or I bitch to people that might have me painting gravel to motivate me.

And it probably gives people a good laugh, or shit to later pull out and taunt me with later.

That reminds me, I've nominated you to paint parking lines in our gravel parking lot. Get to it.
