Title: empire in chaos
Post by: tyrannosaurus vex on May 08, 2011, 05:19:04 PM
I guess this is for Cain, but not exclusively...

All signs point to the imminent collapse of the American "Empire." Of course nobody (in power, anyway) wants to say so openly (and who can blame them? I'm pretty sure the UK still refers to its own Empire as present-tense, in some official contexts), but it's fairly evident that as a global hegemony, Washington is losing its grip on the planet at an increasing pace.

So, first, do you think America's empire would have been more successful in the long term if it had gone the traditional route and reinforced its economic supremacy with outright political rule?

Second question - do you think the US is capable of sustaining this collapse without the Union itself dissolving? Russia survived the collapse of the USSR with its status of "not quite 3rd World" (mostly) intact. Does the US have enough resilience to fall from "Superpower" status without completely imploding?

Yeah, but I wouldn't start singing dirges for the USA just yet.  As a republic, maybe, but not as a world power.

You're right probably. It's too bad the empire must survive at the expense of the republic. Stupid Romans.

I'm going to stay away from the political rule question, but I think we'll survive as a Union just fine. We have a more more cohesive identity than the USSR did and we're not a boiling pot of warring ethnicities Washington is having to keep a lid on.

Yeah.  I think the US citizens would keep thinking and acting like US citizens even if the governing bodies were to fail.

That thought will be cold comfort to the first Californian refugee I see trying to illegally cross the Cascadia border. :lulz:

On a positive note the Interstate Highway system would see a large reduction in traffic!  :lulz:

I thought the plan was to let northern California join Cascadia and southern California sink into the ocean.

Cascadia ought to invest in the means to give southern California a little push, in case the time comes but socal doesn't nip off of its own accord.

Somebody's plan, maybe. My plan is to set up concertina wire around the entire perimeter of WA, OR, and ID and just keep shooting until the PNW has all the liebensraum it needs.

So...I should stay here?

The bay area is fully capable of running Northern California on it's own, and staying the fuck out of Cascadia.

You want to put San Jose in charge of that shit? I'm not sure that's a good idea.

Have you ever BEEN there? :lulz:

They can't even manage a city! SF is an overpriced heroin den, Oakland is nothing but gangsters and White-guys-with-dreds stoners, and San Jose has Lizzay, balanced out by about 900,000 googletards who live in the part of NorCal that's desperately trying to be Socal. And don't even get me started on the smaller cities.

Richmond? Vallejo? fucking Mountain View?

All the more reason to keep them the fuck out of Cascadia.  And overpriced heroin dens tend to be very profitable.

I agree about the "staying the fuck out of Cascadia" part, I was just taking issue with the part where it seemed as though you were making the assertion that those asstards were capable of managing their own affairs in anything resembling a competent manner.

I mean, just look at their state now. Contemplating a horrible dystopian future for CA isn't even necessary. :lulz:

Why are you even directing questions my way Vex?  I thought I made it perfectly clear what I think of you, and vice-versa.  Are you suffering from some kind of mental illness where you compartmentalize events from one thread to another?  I have absolutely no interest in talking to you or spending any time on your questions.

HATERS GOTTA HATE.

Sorry, Folks, but the way of CA is the way of most of the rest of the nation.  Laugh it up, but you're ALL going to Hell in a handbasket.  We just do it FIRST and do it WORST.

Still the 10th largest economy in the world, still carrying MOST  of the other state's budgets through the Feds with our tax contributions.  We have the largest immigrant population and their kids that we have to teach--the majority of non-English speakers reside here.  That's what we have to work with, with an ever-decreasing budget.

And y'all are behind the fucking times--it's actually no longer "North" vs. "South" in CA but instead "coast" vs. "non-coast" (or more aptly named, West vs. East).

So, again, laugh it up, Fuzzballs.  The more you do, the more it does sound like sour grapes.  Fact is, nowhere is not fucked up in the US (or anywhere on the planet, for that matter).

(sorry, I love love love CA and I DO recognize it's full of shit and going down the tubes...but I still can't imagine living anywhere else)
