Best intentions, whenever scented or sighted, should be led along with gentle words until they can be shot in the back of the head by surprise.

Similar, but not really the same.  The old lady seemed to be coming from a place of wishing to genuinely do good work, simply without realizing it was well out of her depth.  I'd be tempted to blame the current "anyone can do ANYthing!" mindset being taught, but she's sorta beyond that at her age.  Unless that's always the way we've been.

Anyway, I still find it amusing and sad, but not as sad as some of the people I've seen moaning about it on FB or Tumblr.  It's a painting, people.  A painting of a zombie with a glowing head.

Arent frescos like water-painting? ("acuarela" i dont know the translation)

Im sure its hard as fuck, because any water used will make the original drip into, well, the smooch it turned into.

It's certainly similar... I learned about it ad nauseum in art school, but can remember very little of it now.  But yeah... that original is, for all intents and purposes, fucked.

THIS ONE DEITY WE CAN GET DOWN TO PRAY FOR!

"WElcome to the Greater Church of MonKey Jesus and Our Lady Discordia"

"With a design influenced by the Bowling Alley in the Whittier region, it was built between 1960 and 1962, to serve the expanding city of Van Nuys.

There is a thriving congregation, and the worship is varied, maintaining the best of the primate tradition, liturgically and musically (disco-accordions anyone?), attracting people from all walks of life and from all over the county of Tucson and beyond.

it really is quite delicious....

the family of the original artist is going to sue the old lady, and want's the painting restored to the original.
the church is making money off tourists coming to see it. (they're from the internet. they've come to help)
the old lady want's a cut of the action, which she says she will donate to muscular atrophy charity (which her son suffers from)

I LOVE the mindset of "Hey, I vandalized this thing, but news of my vandalism spread like wildfire and now the people who own the thing I vandalized are making money, and I want some".

Also, if it's not a restoration, but an original artwork that she deserves royalties for, it kind of weakens her case that she was "restoring" it.
