We used to be a community
We used to talk about how we felt. We used to talk about everything. We used to be able to.
We used to be diverse. We used to have balance, yin and yang, order and disorder, light and dark, serious and humorous. Magic and Mundane, Christian, pagan, heathen, Discordian, Erisian, Athiest, neopagan and people who defy description.
We used to remember that a user name is attached to a person with a name, that pixels on the screen represent a person at a keyboard, we used to laugh and cry with each other, as well as bitching and moaning, kvetching and complaining.
We used to have fun. We used to be sillier, we used to be more serious. It's not a contradiction, you need the silly for the serious and the serious for the silly.
Sometimes we all have to go where the yellow ball goes from here to there, and the white ball follows or leads, as it waxes and wanes. Where this mythical real world is. Where there are jobs or not, family or not, homes, school, vacations, hobbies or not. Where we speak to people, not with a keyboard, but with our lips, our eyes, the muscles of our face, our hands, the expressiveness of our voice, our hearts, our souls, our genitals, our minds.
We used to be a group of people instead of a group of factions. There was this mythical, mystical time I have heard about, where Eris ran freely through the forum, causing mischief without pain, chaos without catastrophy, when words were used to teach, not injure. A time when people listened to their pineal gland, or at least some part of their brain. There were heros. There were villains. There was also community. There was a hippy trippy togetherness that was more than hippy or trippy. People cared about each other. Or, maybe this is just another myth.
Meh!
Things arent all that bad now. Of course, if things always stayed the same as they were...
I wrote it in bits and pieces, so it pretty much has nothing to do with anything that happened recently, but I knew if I didn't post it I would forget about it again :P
Hmm, I feel like I want to disagree with you because of this post, but I also feel like I do not want to disagree with you because its too much trouble. Oh well.

Sorry sweetie. That was all myth. There were times we were almost civil with each other, but the Greyfaced harpies took over this forum long time ago. There was always factions here. There were always those here who seem to only get off when they are putting people down.
There are those of us who still try to teach. But I fear we are in the minority. To many of us here seems to to think they know everything. And goddess forbid we actually point out a mistake,or disagree with them.Grudges are held more tightly here then a winning Powerball ticket.
Lets not delude ourselves Eldora. We are Children of Chaos, not Moonies. And many of us here are not hippies(no offense, but the only thing I can't stand more then hippies is gutterpunks).PD.com was never a Utopia.Nor should it be.But for me,it is a place I can go to learn things.a oplace i can get a good laugh.A place where people I have never met in person were concerned for my well being during Katrina.
One of the things we try to acheive in the COE is gaining the ability to see how things really are,nd then dealing with it.I we can change it for the better,so be it.If not,oh well.Shit happens.
We are still able to talk about how we feel.what we believe.I do it here all the time. This forum is not for the meek.Chaos has a habit of getting rid of things that cannot adapt. And if a poster can't deal with the assholes on this forum, how the fuck do they think they are going to deal with Eris.
I understand how you feel Eldora, but there is one thing I think noone hear wants, and that is PD.Com becoming just another sappy perky pagan site. You have always shown me nothing but respect and kindness El.And I thank you for that.
This place is truly a furum of Eris.because it has real people(sorry for the pun)acting likme real people.and that is the Way of Eris.

nobody has stopped being assholes. it just may be a matter of the rest of the forum ignoring it. or not.
on the other hand, i' ve never beeen there, but i'm guessing this forumis getting closer to the ideals of such assholery as a life style chocie to get out the furstrations of being middle to upper classed and emotionally sensitive americans in the vein of fc and others. this is how we fight the con. this is how we prove we're a part of the problem.

No, I didn't. Looks like you missed the part where no one, except perhaps you, has ever, or will ever, want PD.com to be that way.
I doesn't matter if you called it a myth. what matters is that you imply you wish it to be that way.

So, I draw three possible conclusions from ^ that. All are either implicationson your part or inferences on my part, because you never actually state your desire in the OP.
1. you're implying that you
don't want it to be that way. Which it isn't. So why are you posting this again?
2. you actually
do want it to be this way, but after Verthaine's post, you don't want to admit it.
3. you have no point to make at all. So why are you posting this again?
Maybe you could clear things up for all of us if you
explicitly state the intention behind your OP.

I love you El,but you silly silly woman.I'm hoping you meant
faith in the rest of you(if so,you're a better entity then me .The only faith I have in the majority of humans is that they will probably do something real mean, stupid,or fucked up real soon.Probably within the next couple of posts).I am all in favor of getting interesting (and intelligent) discussions going. But to do that you need interesting and intelligent people. The Greyfaced harpies here have no interest in intellectual discussion.Only the opportunity to sharpen thier claws into some poor posters gut.Oh,and to preen their egos at everyone elses expense. We see it all the time here. You yourself can't post something here without someone calling you an insulting name within 5 posts.
I understand what you were trying to do here, but it'll take more then intelligent discussion to get some peoples heads out their asse here. It'll take a few sticks of dynomite to do that job.
And if you actually meant having faith
for them,I say:"Fuck em! Let them get their own damn faith."
Is it just me, or does Eldora seriously have sand in her vagina lately? Sheesh.
The thing I have noticed is that in recent months much of the traffic on this site has been given over to trolling practice...which is fine, though somewhere along the way we found it more fun to troll each other than the rest of the world. Remember 'Troll: The Provoking?'

Coming from you, it's basically shit-stirring. From a neutral person, it might work, but some people have decided that they can't stand you, and will jump at any chance to disagree with you.
Besides which, your topic was both editorial and ambiguous. How exactly are people supposed to respond as you hope, being as they are and not as you would like?
Intelligent discussion my ass.

No. Cat Maxwell takes the award for PD Forum Top Retard-Lamo Posting.
It still is a community, btw.
It just depends on what your definition of community is.
It is true that when Eldora posts, almost immediately someone else makes an insult. But hasn't the fight been retired already between Eldora and whoever else was in it? Or do you wish me to put that horse down, again?
Please remember this, and it is a lesson learned anew this year by me and some others: Your character is first destroyed by the insults you fling, before any hurt or damage can be done to your victim. What's that, you say? Character? "Why would a Discordian(tm) need character?"
Why?
Because it shows you have a spine. Having a spine a lot of times means not flinging the insult, even if the victim is a supposed enemy.
Point: Some people seem to like creating web dramas and web enemies and web wars because they suck at life and need some electrical/virtual spice. How sad.

3-I have no desire to have to constantly put down some snotnosed upstart trying to make a name for themselves on this forum by trying to use me as a stepping stone and starting shit with me.

nobody has stopped being assholes. it just may be a matter of the rest of the forum ignoring it. or not.
on the other hand, i' ve never beeen there, but i'm guessing this forumis getting closer to the ideals of such assholery as a life style chocie to get out the furstrations of being middle to upper classed and emotionally sensitive americans in the vein of fc and others. this is how we fight the con. this is how we prove we're a part of the problem.
if you're part of the problem you're part of the solution. now let's break stuff like fred durst.

The awesome thing about reading old threads is I have exactly zero memory of anything I posted. I mean, I can remember reading these threads but not replying to them. It's just a small reminder that my recall is 100% crap.
Unfortunately, this thread reminds me I was just as much of a pretentious dickwad then as I am now.
I didn't bother to read the whole thing again. Is it worth it?
Not really. Unless you dig flashbacks of bad trips.

Bump. :lulz:
All this thread does is remind me how much I miss Vincent and how glad I am I never got caught in this maelstrom back in the day.

As far as I know.

LAIL cross posted from Questing Spirits.
Quote from: BethraI figure everyone is pretty much content with the way things are run here. If not then I hope they feel comfortable that they can speak up at any time and they will be heard.
Of course, Cain and Roger aren't "everyone".
Quote from: BethraWe want this to be your place as much as it is ours same as we've always wanted. Each and every member's opinion is important to us.
Except those shitheads Cain and Roger.
Quote from: MothraThe only involvment I want myself with the Admin/modding side of things is to delete spambots, pointless Trolls, Mod posts that arent at all suitable and mess about doing things with the forum software.
And to be able to ban people like Roger and Cain.
Quote from: Mothrawhen you get a much larger userbase than this board (which is quite small really) you inevitably end up with a lot more "special" members, either neo-nazi skinhead satanists or bunch of Trolls.
People who troll are on a par with Neo-Nazi Satanists. Roger and Cain troll, ergo they are on the same level as Neo Nazi Satanists
Quote from: BethraSo yes we're always going to welcome new ideas and fresh new approaches people just have to speak up if they want things changed.
Again, Roger and Cain are exempt from this under the "shithead clause" of the forum rules.
Quote from: EldoraWhen I bitch and blow off I rarely regret it, because there is a reason behind it.
Yes, there is. Its because you like to stir shit, especially if you think someone else is backing you up.
Quote from: Nnonnthhere is no need to impose rules, everyone really already knows where they are and things naturally find their own level.
And in the case of the QS admins, the level seems to be that of scum rising to the top.
Quote from: BethraA place for people to vent and whine and have a bit of a head to head? Already here
Yeah. Its called EB&G, at least until you own yourself.
Quote from: EldoraThe thing that trolls hate the most is to be ignored.
Actually, its hypocrites and unwarranted self importance. Its quite hard to ignore 5000 odd trolls descending on a board all at once, so we struck that from our Charter last year.
Quote from: RunningBearAs members we are here for free. The question of democratic rights doesn't apply. We are guests in someone else's house and should behave accordingly or expect to be asked to leave. That's just how I see it.

You are not banned from the board. If he thought you had a genuine wish to contribute to the board and did't just want to give shit out he change that but after you calling the PD.com lot to come shit on the forum he's not going to see you as being serious about the place. You didn't bother to post on there till you had a fall out with Tent and Eldora and then you only came back to cause shit so I don't see why you would care even if it was a full ban.

Quote from: Eldora
In my town we have about every color, race, however the fuck you want to categorise people based on where their ancestors came from. In the aprtment complex I live in, I have had some interesting neighbors. The most interesting was the lady from Jamaica man. The saddest, but probably most inspiring, were the students from Taiwan, who lived 8 in an apartment with almost no furniture. Well, in the last couple of years, one of the junior colleges has sent a lot of their freshman kids here. They are from Detroit. The first semester there were a lot of peoblems. That's how I remember and that is also how the cop I just talked to remembers it. I have some black girls that live on one side of me. They are so quiet, I thought they moved. They go to school and stay at home and they are quiet. In the apartment on the other side, and the next one down, I have new neighbors. The second one down has 4 black girls. Other than being loud once and being lippy to me after the door was shut, I haven't had a problem with them.
The next door apartment has a girl, it looks like she lives alone. She is beautiful, probably not white, don't know much else about her. My hubby says that her dad comes to visit and that he will talk to him the next time he's here, but I am getting ahead of myself. We don't know too much, except that she has bunch of black guys visit her. A lot. Not always the same ones. And I have never seen any girls visit. They were being loud tonight. And not for the first time. My hubby went to talk to them about being loud. Then I see them walking back and forth past my window, kinda hanging there. Like they were casing the joint. Now, I may be paranoid, but that doesn't mean that no one is out to get me. So, I poke my head out the door and say, "What the fuck is going on out here." The rest happened kinda fast, but not too. There was a skinny guy on the balcony still, the others were at the cars. He gets lippy with me, starts to go back to whatever apartment they were visiting, his buddies in the parking lot tell him not to. Then, other words were said, by all of us, I think, my hubby says something about getting a shotgun, I dial 911. I explain what is going on to a very confused dispatcher, the boys leave, my hubby gets the plate, and I agree to have the police come out so I can talk to them. I change out of my knit shorts into a pair of jeans, put on a sweater that is nice, but not to nice, fix my pony tail and put on sneakers and generally try my best to look like a soccer mom. The cop comes out, we have a lovely chat about the young people of today, the crazy spring, and that we shouldn't bother confonting these kids if they come back, just call the cops. I had to get this down, I feel better, I am no longer shaking and thank you for your support.
