Natural selection occurs at the individual level, and it doesn't give a damn about your quality of life. If having so many children that they ruin the lives of themselves, their children, and everybody around them causes people's genes to be better represented in the gene pool, then that trait and tendency will persist and be reinforced. If a person instead decides that they will not contribute to overpopulation and chooses not to reproduce, then that too will reinforce the tendency for humans to overreproduce, because the genes of those who predisposed not to overreproduce are thusly removed from the gene pool :fnord:...
are you implying that there's a genetic link between the drive to reproduce and lack of education? or that stupid people have a stronger drive to reproduce? assuming that a predisposition to "overreproduce" is in fact genetic, that is.

we'll invent a way to deal with the trash and feed people at the same time.  A trash eating creature that loves to be bbq'd, yet somehow wont reproduce out of control
suddenly, I felt nostalgic.

"It's people. Soylent Green is made out of people. They're making our food out of people. Next thing they'll be breeding us like cattle for food."

Actually, I think that living in unsanitary  conditions all your life would increase your tolerance of certain diseases, but that doesn't really have much to do with genetics, but immune response.
I don't think mortality rates in third world countries would bear this out. also, they produce more children to make up for the ones who die, so when conditions do start to improve there's a sudden population explosion as the habit of producing babies doesn't go away at the same rate as the babies grow up to produce babies of their own. add to that the changing face of the world economy and you have more people living on the edge of existance than ever, because no one grows their own food anymore, making famine a global risk rather than a local one as it tended to be in times past. so, in a few years we might be eating each other anyway.

I don't blame you for not naming the cult, I've noticed how they have a pack of hyenas who search for mentions and then harass people online. And probably offline, I assume. I'm glad they're dying out.
I am, too. it'll take a long time for their misfit offspring to die off, but it gives me hope for the future.

If it's any kind of consolation, I too have a reading list and PDF files about Fascism.

Granted, I got them from Cain, but I do have them.
I would love to get that list!

Any change we'll see whatever it is that shapes up? And what cult was that?
at this point I think it may come out as an essay, at which time I'll reveal the name of the cult out of necessity, but for now I prefer that the cult's internet monitors not know I'm even thinking of writing something.
Sounds quite scary.

Benito Mussolini's Doctrine of Fascism is a good place to start, yes?
it's not as scary as it sounds. they won't come after me, not directly... not now. ten years ago they would have, probably in the middle of the night. but not now. they're too few in number, and lawsuits and the internet have made them cautious.

I was wondering if mussolini would be the place to start, so I'll check my local library. thanks :)

I would hazard a guess, based on my own reaction, it would mean something like this: terror from above.  Racism.  Hatred.  Totalitarianism.  Intolerance beyond measure.  Messianic belief in the destiny of a chosen group.  Fealty and absolute obedience to a leader above all.  Genocide.  Conquest.  Symbology and muddled occult/religious thought.  Regimented masses.  Spying and torture and concentration camps.  A world drowning in rape and murder on a scale never seen before or since.
I feel inadequate to respond because I'm so completely naive when it comes to politics and sociology, yet I'm compelled to respond because reading this has given me some insight to how I lived for 20 years and makes me want to explore the connection.

I lived in a fascist... nay, extremely fascist religious cult cobbled together to support the control by a single man over every detail of the followers lives. I lived sometimes completely sequestered from outsiders, and always separate. looking back on it with this bit of perspective raises the hair on the back of my neck. there were deaths. rapes. suicides after closed-door meetings. witch-hunts. isolation. weapons training. mental conditioning to kill under certain conditions.

I need to learn more. something amorphous in my mind is beginning to take shape, finally.

I've been asking around for good sources of information about fascism. if anyone can recommend books, sites, I'm open to suggestions.

Isn't every artist a con artist?

Can you elaborate on this please.  I'm not quite sure I get your angle.

They belong in prison.

Not to mince words, artists are out to gain your confidence just long enough to steal your money.
I know I am.

Let's go bilk the elderly out of their life savings.
WORD.

I am merely stating an opinion not unlike the opinions of proud parents that insist everyone should have a kid.
who the hell are those people? a whole bunch of gay parents and I really want to know.

Sorry I thought you where being anal about syntax.

I forgot an s.

"you don't need kids."
I'm only anal about syntax when the syntax error amuses me. I inferred the absent s without a problem. the problem was in understanding your point.

seriously?
were you just rephrasing the OP? I feel like I missed something.

"Don't drive drive your kid everywhere and then wonder why s/he expects you to be a chauffeur." doesn't have the same meaning as "You don't need kid." so clarification on wtf you mean would be nice.

Maybe he thinks small children should just be left at home alone. Or maybe he thinks people shouldn't have children.

Unless/until he clarifies, I suggest we come to the worst possible conclusion, and flame the shit out of him for it!
see, that's the conclusion I came to. since I have kids, should I cease to "need" them? send the little one out to walk to school 2 miles away so I can get all righteous about not driving? what? don't need her, so yeah, I'm gonna leave her at home by herself while I spend 4 hours on my bike doing the things I need to because she needs me, right? or maybe I can get a time machine and go back to that fateful moment before I got pregnant because clearly I didn't think this through.
