Or Kill Me / Re: Why Paganism is Crap, parts I-V
« on: August 03, 2011, 06:53:14 am »
Exactly.  There is no alternative.  Any time you think you've got a special pipeline to the ultimate Truth, you're doing essentially the same thing as the Pagans.

Other than Pagans and Calvinists, who the fuck thinks that?

THINKS it, or SAYS it?  Any high muckey-muck of damn near any faith you choose to look at claims they know the TRUTHTM...  Or at least A Truth...

I know a bunch of IRREFUTABLE TruthsTM.  Actual, objective wisdom that cannot be denied by anyone of any denomination, yet cannot be proven scientifically.

Now that's where the money's at.

Techmology and Scientism / Re: Pi is wrong; long live Tau!
« on: August 03, 2011, 03:02:43 am »
Well, I like it.  Makes sense to me.

I'm kind of surprisxsed tau doesn't already stand for something, though.  I'd have figured the entire greek alphabet had been taken by now.

What does that mean?
It means exactly what he said.

Could you explain it in a way that makes sense?

See edit.

I did:)

I understand better.  It's not so much aesthetic as it is practical, to prevent human error when dealing with two signs instead of one.  Is that the gist?

If you're trying to solve a long ass equation with variables up the yin yang, it's really easy to forget about a variable somewhere and get it all fucked up.

Right, I get you.

Before I try reading this, let me ask, is it even possible for me to understand this if I am no good at math?

You mean highschool geometry?

Yeah, that.

I know what pi is, and I recall 2pi coming up sometimes in formulae [that's a lie, I don't recall anything from high school geometry].  But skimming the article just now it doesn't look like anything I can comprehend.  Why do we need tau when it is the same as 2pi?  What's wrong with just using 2pi?

Is this basically an aesthetic thing?

Hey Dingo, glad to see you are keeping intermittens alive.  Anything I can do?

If you're not looking for comics, I have some stories called "Koans of the Foolish Master" you might be able to use.

Unless, y'know, you're actually right.

How would you know?

What's the alternative?

There once was a leper from Hoboken,
Who gave his numb penis a pokin'.
When off his dick fell
He said, "It's just as well,
As I had no more fingers for strokin'."

Thanks for that, Prof.  I still worship at the altar of Johnny, but I'd forgotten all about these little gems.
