Now they're bitching about using "Geronimo" as a code name, and how it insults the Amerindians or some shit.
Fuck them.  Geronimo would have understood and approved.

Damn Skippy he would have.

Hey, hero-cult leader...Our soldiers, the descendants of the people who fought you, will scream your name for courage when they jump into danger.  Then we're going to name our most important military operation in 50 years after you.  Are you okay with all of this?

Bullfuckingshit. You think he would have approved of the US Military, who he hated and spent his entire life fighting and running from (after they butchered his wife and kids), using his name as a code name for a mission to invade yet another country and hunt down and kill the leader of an opposition force?

You guys must be high, or painfully unaware of Geronimo's history.

It was the Mexicans who named him Geronimo. This appellation stemmed from a battle in which, ignoring a deadly hail of bullets, he repeatedly attacked Mexican soldiers with a knife, causing them to utter appeals to Saint Jerome ("Jeronimo!"). The name stuck.

I am well versed in his history and stand by my comment.

Also it was the Mexican government who killed his family.

My guess is he wouldn't give a shit, since he's... you know... dead.

Stand by it all you want, it's still painfully misguided.

You are right that it was the Mexican military who murdered his family though. I'll give you that one.

Keep in mind that what people are objecting to, here, is that "Geronimo" refers to Bin Laden. Operation Geronimo, in which the enemy was killed. Poor old Goyahkla died a pitiful and beaten old wretch, and now his name was used as the label for yet another enemy of the US. It's kinda bullshit, but what's done is done.

Oh! Well hell, that is in bad taste.

Perhaps in one way you are correct. From another angle, however, the Afghan fighters are by far the best guerrilla fighters since the Apache Indians. They stand alone in having defeated the Soviet Union and are probably on their way to slapping the U.S around.

For about 25 years with roughly 30 warriors Geronimo terrorized 2 nations, was wounded and survived several times and to me still stands as one of the greatest men that ever lived.

So in using it, they're giving Bin Laden the highest level of respect?

Awesome.

Not that it can be undone, but still. I think people tend to forget that indians are, you know, still around. So it's just a few hurt feelings and a bad taste in their mouths... what's it matter, it's just the stragglers from a mostly successful genocide.

Like it or not he has earned some measure of respect for avoiding capture or death for nearly 10 years after pulling off the most notable terrorist attack in history while several super powers were looking for him. Geronimo was equally hated and feared by his enemies in his day.

I gotta disagree.  Geronimo was huge into the tragic hero thing.  I think having his enemy's grandsons screaming his name for courage would tickle him pink.

And as for the invasion bit, I don't think he'd have given two shits.
