Well, at least SOMEBODY is doing the research.

Japan has apparently developed a new wind turbine that will (at least in theory) TRIPLE the output of windmills, making wind power cheaper than nuclear.

I was really happy to read about that too, but like many popular science articles, it explains hardly anything and it's most definitely not as good as advertised: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2941035 (then again, the people on hackernews are generally a bunch of cynical vinegar pissing cunts, but they often do know their shit)
