I wasn't complaining, I was clarifying.  I know where to go to get my dose of negative attention, and that's something any attention whore should be greatful for.

You're pathetic.

And you wrecked cancer Jesus.

Cancer Jesus?

It's from a video for a hot chip song. Most of their videos are quite cool.
Yep! Cancer Jesus song.

I've been hoping this would get re-posted! Thanks!
'Welcome!

I had trouble breathing for a minute!! It's going up on FB.

So that's where that avatar came from.

Yeah, Garbo had it, and then buttmunch swiped it off of her.

Yeah, that was fucking annoying. Fucker can't even come up with his own avatar ideas, and didn't change it after it was pointed out that another user had already been using Cancer Jesus. Talk about tacky.

She said it was ok, I asked permission specifically.

Seems to me it wasn't that simple, if I'm remembering right.

But whatever, asking someone if you can have their avatar isn't socially inappropriate or creepy at all. Not any more than saying that you hope that if anyone rapes your kid that they kill her too, right?

Nice punching bag avvie. You're not attention whoring AT ALL.
"I'm guessing it was January 2007, a meeting in Bethesda, we got a bag of bees and just started smashing them on the desk," Charles Wick said. "It was very complicated."

If I recall correctly, Garbo made a bunch of cuts from the video in question and posted them. BH asked if he could use one (which was not the one Garbo was using at the time, btw), she said yes and he has used it since.

Juana

^ That.

But yeah. I was using a different one I made and he asked (resulting thread here). Again, this was before I was aware of the creep factor, so I said said it was fine if he wanted to use one from my batch. Ordinarily, I wouldn't care - I posted a wad of them to dA, so they were free game.
I mind now, obviously, and wish I hadn't allowed them to be downloaded (they're fan, so I erred on the side of caution).

You coulda asked.  I will now change it to something else.
Good.

I dunno, but you gotta fix that shit.

Have you considered buying a new turntable?  I've found that going back into old record stores has become a fairly thrilling experience again, contrasted to the iTunes store/Bittorrent.

I do have a turntable. Admittedly, it's not a particularly great one....but still. As for downloading music, I don't because I do not own an i-pod. I can play MP3 on my Nook but generally, do not bother.

In thinking about this situation the other day, I realized that my interest in music expired somewhere around 2003 or 2004. Anything after that is a blur. VH1 had another one of those '100 Best Songs of the X Decade' shows on. Turns out that I barely recognized most of what was shown. Now, I'm not even talking about music that I would get into. I am not even recognizing shitty music that came out in the last 10 years. My experience went something along the lines of:

VH1: Shows clip, usually some deeply underwhelming, one hit wonder 'club' tune followed by some vacuous talking head saying: THAT WAS THE BEST FUCKING SONG OF THE DECADE HANDS DOWN!
Me:  :? (wash, rinse repeat)

Of course, serves me right for ever watching VH1 in the first place. But it became apparent to me that I have spent the better part of the last decade disconnected from music.

So, do you want to reconnect, or do you want to go back to the days of 33 1/3?

The Good Reverend Roger

I hate how PD can turn a perfectly good attention-whoring thread into a reasonable discussion about music.

If you'd like, we can turn the music discussion into something entirely unreasonable.

Zappa, for example.

I would like to be excited about music again....I miss being excited about a new album coming out for example.

I would like to reconnect with music generally, I'm less concerned about the format it takes. [I'm not especially thrilled by 'downloads' to be honest, but I can live with them.]

I used to be very creative musically. And by creative, I mean that I had a lot of ideas flowing - I'm not suggesting that they were necessarily any good, it's just that I had a lot of them. I could play the guitar happily for hours, or write songs or study music and musical culture(s) very intensely.

Somewhere along the line, I figure about 1998, the desire to play music took a nosedive. Given the size of my fake, polystyrene nose, you can imagine that there was a lot of nose to dive. This lack of enthusiasm began with the break of my last band after about 3 years of being together.

Although I stopped playing, I continued to listen to music but then, as a I said it was about 2004 where I ceased to care even about that. Subsequently I don't even play other people's music, let alone my own anymore.

Mrs Mang got me a cheap but very useable soprano sax in 2007. I've tinkered around with it but have not got the kind of drive I had as a younger person to devote the time needed to acquire any type of mastery of it. I've had some enjoyment out of noodling around over backing tracks though, I think what I miss the most is improvising and jamming with actual people.

While the soprano sax is a much more suitable instrument for me than the tenor (which I tried to play back in the early 90s), the saxophone is not especially suited to me in general, due to the fact that I am periodically struck by mouth ulcers.  I used to play the guitar reasonably well, but I don't have callouses any more (and probably don't want them back due to my job). I don't have the finger co-ordination or strength that I once had and to cap it all off, I am desperately bored with the guitar as an instrument. If I went through the trouble of re-learning to play, I don't really know in what genre I would be in. I sure as hell won't be worried about copping Yngwie Malmsteen solos anymore.

To cap it all, I'm a lousy singer.

What makes it so? Making it so is what makes it so.
